Movies of 2016
I don’t get to go out to see a movie very often. I love the movies, I love everything about making movies, I just don’t love the cost to see a movie. It’s also rather difficult to go see a movie with a toddler running around the house. Despite all that, I did manage to get out and see three movies this year (click on the titles to read my full review of each movie):
- Batman vs Superman – [rating=3]
- Suicide Squad – [rating=4]
- Rogue One – [rating=5]
Of these three movies, I’d say that one that was the most surprising was Suicide Squad. It and Batman vs Superman (BvS) received the harshest of criticisms this year. BvS received the cruelest of reviews. While I didn’t think it was as awful as everyone was saying, I agree that Ben Affleck does not make a good Batman, however, he was better than George Clooney and Val Kilmer. Suicide Squad was met with some pretty mediocre reviews. I heard some folks enjoyed it and some folks hated it. I was rather pleased with it and I have every intention of watching it again (it’s already on the Plex server).
The fact that I loved Rogue One should be of no surprise to anyone. The fact that we have now had two Star Wars movies within a year of each other is awesome! I wrote a lot about Star Wars this year. I shared some theories I had about Rey in The Force Awakens. I tried to help some folks understand what Rogue One will be about. I am really looking forward to the next chapter coming in December.
2016 Walk to Mordor
I finished my Walk to Mordor a month earlier than I did in 2015. I have already restarted for 2017 and I am currently on track. Last year I said I was going for the “… and Back Again” leg of the challenge, but I did not succeed. I am committed to hitting that goal this year, it’s just another 1600 miles. My 2016 FitBit stats are:
- 3,973,095 steps
- 7,017 floors
- 2,073.61 miles

The most exciting event that made 2016 so fantastic was the first World Series victory for the Chicago Cubs in 108 years! I have been a Cubs fan since I was two years old and to finally see them win the championship is beyond words. Its been two months since they won and it still seems surreal. If they never win again in my lifetime, I’m glad I got to see them win.
I also talked a lot about being a Geek. I talked about how the world belongs to the geek now and how none of us should feel berated by that label anymore. We should embrace who we are and what we enjoy. Anyone that mocks us for being who we are is, in no way, a poor reflection on yourself. You must be proud of who you are and never let anyone make you feel any different.
It’s a new year. Despite the awful losses we endured in 2016, we must look forward to 2017 and focus on the things we can change. I’m tired of the ugliness that is sweeping our nation. Let us try to rise above all the hate and cruelty. What you believe, who you voted for, how you live your life should not be a reason to besmirch someone. Kindness starts with you.
I wish you all a safe and happy 2017. God Bless.
I could accomplish so much more if I only had minions!
