Issue 85Issue 85: Apparently there is a convention called QuakeCon which is considered the largest LAN party in North America! Awesome name, perfect for this type of convention. It was held in Dallas, Texas at the Hilton Anatole. I’d be curious if anyone has attended it because it sounds like a lot of fun. Also in the news is Blizzard’s decision to move away from subscription based MMOs with its new Titan game, whenever that is released. I’m sure removing the payment model was part of the redesign of the game.

There are quite a few videos available in this issue associated with updates for Elder Scrolls, World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV. There are also some new Aion updates as a result of a player design contest. Capcom has a treat for PS4 folks. Enjoy!

Celestial Tournament and Legendary Details

Posted 7.31.13 – If you are following any of the patch 5.4 PTR news for World of Warcraft, here are some more details on the Celestial Tournament (battle pets) and the continuation of the Legendary questline. There are a few screenshots of the Celestial Tournament and it talks about obtaining Timeless Coins (and what you can buy with them). There are also additional changes and item clarifications regarding the legendary cloaks (which includes some tank love).

Aion Unveils Player-Designed Weapons

Posted 7.31.13 – A while back NCSoft held a contest for players to design weapons for the classes in Aion. Perhaps I missed the memo but apparently this wasn’t just some arbitrary contest. The winning designs are actually going into the game! This is pretty cool! The Massively article has a gallery of the winning models and they can be purchased in the Black Cloud Marketplace. One of the commenters pointed out that essentially NCSoft just got free design work from non-employees that they are now selling to players. I have to admit, there is something a little wrong with that scenario.

Deep Down trailer Capcom Making a PS4 MMO?

Posted 8.1.13 – Capcom has been busy producing their latest title, Deep Down. It turns out that this title won’t be a PC game. Capcom may be making Deep Down an MMO exclusively for the PS4. There’s going to be a show in Tokyo where additional details about the game could come out. There is a video that’s a bit “horror film-ish” but the graphics are beautiful.

ESO Liveblog Elder Scrolls Online Gameplay

Posted 8.2.13 –  At QuakeCon there was a live stream of the latest state of Elder Scrolls online. Obviously by the time I post this the live stream is over but the Massively post does have some key points from the event as well as a video, but its pretty lengthy. Give yourself some time if you want to watch the whole video.

A Look At the FFXIV Reboot

Posted 8.3.13 – VG24 has an article from the most senior staffer at Square Enix who talks about the reboot of Final Fantasy XIV. He talks about their decision to completely redesign the game from the ground-up after the wake of the MMO’s poor reception of the original release of FFXIV. There are a couple of videos and a gallery of images from the game. This is a pretty interesting article and it seems to me that Square Enix took the criticism of the original release to heart and they possibly may redeem themselves.
