mmotimesheaderIIIssue 83: Greetings Gregarious Gamers!!! I’ve decided that the headlines are going to be listed from earliest to most recent. I’ve noticed in past issues that often times I’ve found a headline that is a follow up of a previous headline and it didn’t make sense chronologically to show the latter one before the former. Hopefully this makes the news flow a little more logically. SDCC also started this week, did anyone go?

There are a some headlines I included with some non-traditional news. Some of the manufacturers are expanding beyond their normal scope or introducing new concepts that we may not have expected. I’m not going to say too much, you need to check it out. Age of Wushu, Final Fantasy, SWTOR and even some more World of Warcraft news await you below (or after the break). I also found a couple headlines about some titles introduced at SDCC or titles that I haven’t mentioned before. Good hunting!

Wildstar - aiming trailer Wildstar Takes Aim at MMO Combat

Posted 7.15.13 – The upcoming NCSoft MMO, Wildstar, has been getting a lot of positive feedback and press. I honestly didn’t really pay a lot of attention to it because I thought, based on some of the images, that it was going to be a little too cartoon-y. However, their approach to combat is really interesting. The developers have implemented an aiming mechanic. Instead of just clicking and casting, you actually have to position your character so the mob is actually “within your sites”, as it were. Check out the video in this link, you will see what I mean because its kind of difficult to explain.

Eorzea Collection 2013 FFXIV Armor Sets Preview

Posted 7.15.13 – There isn’t much to this post because its mostly about the embedded video but the title of the post, and the video, is quite humorous. Square Enix wanted to tease Final Fantasy fans with a preview of some of the upcoming player garb. Eorzea Collection 2013 is a short video showing off some pretty cool gear.

Age of Wushu Expanding Beyond the PC

Posted 7.16.13 – I haven’t quite been able to get into Age of Wushu despite how tantalizing it looked as it was coming closer to its launch. Perhaps part of that, however, is that I can’t seem to decide which game I want to play since I like so many of them. At any rate, Snail Games is now looking to expand the game into the console and mobile platforms. Furthermore, they also want a movie deal! I’m a sucker for martial arts film so a movie would be interesting, though I know Jet Li (the spokesman for the game) has retired from martial arts films.

SWTOR 2.4 Patch Hints More PvE Content

Posted 7.16.13 –  Man I miss playing SWTOR! I just can’t keep up with everything and afford to pay for a subscription and the F2P just leaves me feeling too stymied after having a sub. In any event, Bioware is feeding some hints to SWTOR players about more PvE and PvP events coming up. The obvious ones are those that are returning (ex: the Gree event) but they are hinting a new events too; for example Bounty Contract Week – that just sounds really cool!

Transmog Helms Available in Blizzard Store

Posted 7.17.13 – I’m not sure how I feel about this yet. Blizzard has decided that players can now purchase (with real money) transmog items from the Blizzard store. Right now these items are only available in the EU (though by the time you read this, it might be in the US). There are many prognostications that an in-game store is the end of WoW, but I think that’s a bit too mellow dramatic (*cough*trolls*cough*). At any rate, you can check out what these helms look like in the link below (fwiw, I think they look pretty cool, but not cool enough to spend $15 on them).

Legend of Mount Hua trailer More Age of Wushu Expansion Details

Posted 7.17.13 – If the talks of a movie weren’t enough, how about some more details, and a video, of the upcoming expansion (Legends of Mount Hua). As I said above, I’ve had a hard time getting into this game (I’m not much of a PvPer to begin with) but the concept that you can build a rapport with an NPC to the point where they will not only fight along side you, but you can hire them to exact revenge on a fellow player. As sadistic as this sounds, that’s frakking awesome! No other MMO comes to mind that has any similar mechanic. Age of Wushu is starting to sound more like a Chinese Mofia MMO!

Firefly Online announcement Firefly Online Announced at SDCC

Posted 7.18.13 – This is not the sordid Firefly Universe Online, its something completely different, though of the same universe. This is apparently going to start out as a mobile MMO (scheduled for a summer 2014 release) for iPhone and Android devices. I’m conflicted about this because while I love Firefly, I don’t think this is going to be that great of a hit. In fact I’m concerned that this is going to be a gigantic flop. The trailer from the announcement at SDCC is embedded in the post.
