The Acolyte Final Thoughts

The Acolyte series poster

Now that I have had time to process (and re-watch), I will share some final thoughts on this season of The Acolyte. The series is not listed as “ended” so another season is still possible. I read somewhere that Leslye Headland already has ideas for a second season and she is “currently in discussions” with the powers that be.

Overall I think the show did not disappoint. It’s not the best series but I was still sufficiently entertained. The fact that I am unfamiliar with most of the High Republic era didn’t harm my viewing experience. I think I enjoyed it more despite that fact.

The Acolyte Episode 8

Title: The Acolyte
Directed by: Hanelle M. Culpepper

This is the season finale. Initially, this episode didn’t have an official title. The Disney+ app had it as “Episode 8” however other sources are calling it “Doom”. Only IMDB was showing it as “The Acolyte”. I wonder why the title was so elusive for so long. Regardless, let’s get on with the discussion.

Again, this will contain major spoilers so proceed with caution (or go watch it first).

The Acolyte Episode 7

Kelnacca - The Acolyte Episode 7

Title: Choice
Directed by: Kogonada

This is the penultimate episode of the first season. We finally get the other flashback episode with the title I predicted we’d get, although this episode is more from the Jedi’s perspective instead of Mae’s.

This was a solid episode that explains most things we saw in the third episode. There are still a few things left unanswered and a couple of new questions. Overall a solid performance by everyone. Only one more left.

The Acolyte Episode 6

Title: Teach/Corrupt
Directed by: Hanelle M. Culpepper

This episode is toned down compared to last week’s episode. It’s pretty standard for the episode that follows the mid-season climax. However, it sets up the season’s final act with only two more left. Leslye Headland already has ideas for a Season Two. Things are taking an interesting turn. Yes, we get to see the lightwhip but it’s very brief. I guess it’s more of a tease. If we get a season two, I hope Vernestra Rwoh survives so that we can see better use of the lightwhip.

The Acolyte Episode 5

Title: Night
Directed by: Alex Garcia Lopez

I said there would be an episode titled “Night”, although I don’t think that prediction is profound. Anyone could have guessed that but the title does have an ominous tone and this episode delivered on that.

This episode delivered on many levels and had us all feeling lots of emotions by the end. This is one of those episodes that I dread watching again because I’m not sure I’m ready to see certain things happen again. All in all, it’s another very solid episode from director Alex Garcia Lopez.

The Acolyte Episode 4

Title: Day
Directed by: Alex Garcia Lopez

I know I’m late, again, posting my thoughts on the latest episode but sometimes life gets a little busy. Obviously, this episode is not Mae’s perspective of the events on Brendok. We see a change in Mae’s character so I still think that episode is coming. I expect that we will have an episode, or episodes, titled “Night” and/or “Choice” which will focus on Mae.

A couple of cameos, or Easter Eggs, have caused quite the brouhaha that I will help clarify. Despite that, this was a solid episode, probably the best so far. It does end with quite the cliffhanger.
