Vernestra Rwoh's lightwhip in The Acolyte Episode 6

Title: Teach/Corrupt
Directed by: Hanelle M. Culpepper

This episode is toned down compared to last week’s episode. It’s pretty standard for the episode that follows the mid-season climax. However, it sets up the season’s final act with only two more left. Leslye Headland already has ideas for a Season Two. Things are taking an interesting turn. Yes, we get to see the lightwhip but it’s very brief. I guess it’s more of a tease. If we get a season two, I hope Vernestra Rwoh survives so that we can see better use of the lightwhip.

Slow But Progressing Forward

Yes, this episode is slow. Its only purpose is to transition the flow of the story to the penultimate and climactic end of the season. Vernestra’s purple lightwhip did look pretty sick; I can’t wait to see it in actual combat.

Interestingly, the showrunners seem to be alluding to the possibility of Mae and Osha switching sides. The jaded one finding compassion and the compassionate one giving in to her feelings of failure. It’s a turn that hasn’t been done in Star Wars before (i.e. both siblings simultaneously swapping sides).

I still think Amandla Stenberg struggles with her characters. Her acting is still falling a little flat for me, especially compared to Manny Jacinto and Lee Jung-jae’s performances.

As much as I like the brother angle for Qimir and Sol, now I’m beginning to think Qimir was a youngling but I don’t think Sol was his master. Given Sol’s attachment to his padawans, he should have easily remembered Qimir. I think Qimir’s master was someone else, perhaps Master Vernestra, and he was at the Jedi temple at the same time as Sol.

In the penultimate episode, I think we will finally see what happened to the twins’ family and coven.
