MMO Times: Back In The Saddle

mmotimesheaderIssue 72: After an extremely stressful week from all fronts of life on top of being sick with food poisoning, the MMO Times is back to bring you all some gaming news. Well, the headlines of gaming news that is. Life lesson, even if coffee has been in the freezer, don’t drink it if its over a year old, it can make you sick. It’s especially upsetting if you are a coffee lover. But I digress.

There are a few titles hitting their beta periods that you might want to check out. There is already a SWTOR patch coming out after the launch of its first expansion (which I guess was pretty successful). A new issue for The Secret World and other gaming goodies. Check it out, gamers!

The MMO Times: Launch Day!

mmotimesheaderIssue 71: Last week was launch week for a couple of titles (or expansions) that I have been talking about often. I’m sure you are aware by now that these titles are Age of Wushu and SWTOR’s first expansion. Read on to see additional details about their respective launches. I haven’t picked up the SWTOR expansion yet. I want to but I’m still trying to justify the cost since so few of my friends are still playing it I lack the motivation.

If you are playing the SWTOR expansion, I’d like to hear from you. I’ve already received some great feedback from the folks on Google+. Actually, if you are partaking in any of the new things talked about in this issue I’d be curious as to your impressions. Age of Wushu went live, some new raid content for TSW, we have some more Infinite Crisis news and more!

On a final note, I want to express my heartfelt sorrow for those victims of the bombing at the Boston Marathon. Its despicable that someone is capable of such atrocities. My thoughts and prayers are with all the runners and the communities affected by this tragedy.

Mickey Mouse is Dead to Me!

mickey-mouse-dead-mouse-trap-disneyI started by giving Disney the benefit of the doubt when we all heard about its acquisition of everything Star Wars. The latest news has me wondering if my trust was misplaced.

If you haven’t heard yet, Disney is shutting down the LucasArts division, thereby throwing 150 programmers into unemployment. If that wasn’t tragic enough, all those great Star Wars titles are now a thing of the past, any projects that were in the works (ex: Star Wars 1313) has been canceled, and it leaves me wondering what will happen to existing titles that relied on the LucasArts backing?

This isn’t the first victim of Disney’s chopping block; remember they are ending the Clone Wars series. It’s ironic that the company that is responsible for creating childhood memories, is slowly dismantling mine! I’m now legitimately concerned about SWTOR because I was just starting to get back into that game. The Clone Wars series was highly successful so obviously how well a product is doing doesn’t mean its safe from Disney executives. The tumultuous start of SWTOR might be a blemish Disney doesn’t want to salvage especially now that LucasArts is gone.

I’m angry that all those programmers that developed so many great titles are just cast aside like dirty laundry. I certainly hope it was an issue of redundancy that often accompanies the purchase of another large corporation. As far as the titles are concerned I hope that Disney will absorb them into their collective of video game media and try to keep those titles alive and functioning.

Disney is doing the gamer and Star Wars community a huge disservice. I hope they plan to make it up to all of us but it damn well better be something extraordinary! Something akin to the invention of Mountain Dew and Cheetos!

The MMO Times: OMG! Change Your Profile Image!

mmotimesheaderIssue 69: PAX East is over and thus the news slows down. I mean all the great new information was already unveiled last weekend so there isn’t much to talk about that will usurp all the residual buzz. I tried to put together a few articles for your Easter weekend.

The first SWTOR expansion has an official release date (and don’t forget that this weekend is another double XP weekend), a new Turbine title related to the DC Universe, Runescape 3 and Neverwinter news and more! Check it out!

The MMO Times: Habemus Novum Content

mmotimesheaderIssue 67: “We Have New Content!” World of Warcraft’s 5.2 patch is officially in full swing. This past week was the first week when the new raid, Throne of Thunder, became available for the games LFR system (giving raiding guilds an opportunity to experience the new raid content first). But enough about World of Warcraft, that isn’t the only cool game out there right now with new content.

In this issue, which is a bit overdue, has more details about the upcoming China MMO Age of Wushu, some information on the new title Defiance, even some information about Lord of the Rings Online, which I don’t talk about much. There is also some content news for The Secret World and some double experience in the near future for SWTOR players. Check it out!

The MMO Times: Sha of Happiness Edition

mmotimesheaderIssue 65: Hello again, Gamers! The past couple of weeks it seemed horribly difficult to find interesting news to provide but it has all changed the past couple of days. Between Sony’s unveiling of the Playstation 4 and PAX just around the corner, there was no shortage of announcements, new features and trailers.

We have some more news on SWTOR and Marvel Heroes to check out, exciting news if you are a PS3 and Diablo III fan, and the return of BlizzCon! Now that Bungie has separated from Micro$oft, they are entering the MMO arena … no, its not another Halo MMO. Check it out!
