Star Wars: Is Palpatine Omniscient?

Quick spoiler warning, this topic discusses the events of episodes 7 and 8 of The Bad Batch Season 2. If you haven’t watched those yet, it behooves you to return after you have. The inspiration for this post comes from something I saw on Twitter. At the end of episode 8 (Truth and Consequences), the Emperor implies that he had foreseen the outcome of the vote to pass the Defense Recruitment Bill. This is a common claim by the Emperor which begs the question is Palpatine omniscient?

Force Manipulation

The short answer is no (IMO). If Palpatine actually knew all outcomes he would be unstoppable. As we saw he is defeated, twice. I think he boasts that he has foreseen events as a fear tactic; to convince his enemies their efforts are futile. The other possibility is that he only sees what he wants to see and not actual future events. The Sith are notorious for manipulating the Force to further their own agenda. Therefore one can assume Palpatine’s “visions” are a manipulation of the actual events.

Soapbox: Be Your Own Fan

Jedi Mickey

This is a soapbox with the Star Wars fandom as the theme. Honestly, this can easily apply to any other fandom (i.e. Marvel, DC, Star Trek, Doctor Who, etc). Do not let the Mike Zeroh’s and Star Wars Theory’s influence the kind of fan you are. Be Your Own Fan! The guys at Rebel Force Radio said that on one of their podcasts a couple of weeks ago and it really resonates with me.

I saw a meme once that said (I’m paraphrasing) Star Wars is like a new restaurant, you don’t have to like everything on the menu. I want to expand on that and add that you shouldn’t insult the things that people do like. My eight-year-old can understand that concept so an adult shouldn’t have any problem with it. Personally, Star Wars is like Portillo’s, I love everything on the menu.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Trailer

Well, here it is folks, during the game where Tom Brady is getting his ass kicked, again (LOL!). The Mandalorian Season 3 trailer – the final trailer.

My two favorite parts are the Anzellans and Grogu Force pushing the Morlock-looking thing! I have to go and watch this a dozen more times so I can fully absorb all of the details.

Season 3 of the Mandalorian premieres March 1st on Disney+

Where Is The Bad Batch Episodic Post?

The Bad Batch Season 2

We are a week into the second season of The Bad Batch. It’s a series that follows a group of genetically altered clone troopers after Order 66. Some of you might be wondering where is The Bad Batch episodic post.

The short answer is that I hadn’t planned on doing posts for all the episodes as I do for live-action. The Bad Batch appeals to a much more niche audience. Fans of The Clone Wars and the first season are the target demographic for this show. I feel the live-action series target a much broader audience.

If there is a desire for episodic posts I can certainly oblige (although given the meager audience I have, I’m not expecting a response). If you’ve never watched The Bad Batch or any of the animated series, I highly encourage you to do so. They are canon (ex: Ahsoka, Hera, Sabine, etc) and they do enrich the overall Star Wars Disney universe.

If you are watching The Bad Batch (and you’re reading this), leave a comment with your thoughts.

Andor: Luthan Rael and Sacrifice

Luthan Rael and Sacrifice

I have mentioned, numerous times, how great the Andor series is and I won’t stop. If you struggled to get into the show, keep watching because it’s probably the best series of the franchise. The acting and writing far surpass anything Lucasfilm has ever done even when George was in charge. One of the best moments is the speech Stellan Skarsgård gives in Episode 11. I can keep reading his speech over and over so I’m posting it here. This is Luthan Rael and sacrifice:

Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love. I’ve given up all chances at inner peace. I’ve made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there’s only one conclusion: I’m damned for what I do.

My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight, they’ve set me on a path from which there’s no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground beneath my feet.

What is my sacrifice? I’m condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else’s future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude.

So what do I sacrifice?

Everything.

While I agree that Diego Luna gave some excellent performances and is deserving of the Golden Globe nomination, I feel like Stellan Skarsgård also deserves recognition.

Final Thoughts on Andor Season One

Final Thoughts on Andor Season One

Another excellent Star Wars series is in the bag. The good news is there will be a season two, unfortunately, it won’t be out until 2024. However, there will be plenty of other Star Wars series to watch until then. Be that as it may, here are my final thoughts on Andor season one.

This was probably the most unanticipated Star Wars series. In fact, even I internally debated if we needed a series about Cassian Andor. However, I am an avid Star Wars fanatic. Obviously, I’m going to watch it on Day One!

I was wrong. Andor is the Star Wars series I didn’t know I wanted. If I hadn’t made it very clear in all my episode recaps, let me make it clear now.

I. Loved. This. Series! It’s amazing!
