Issue 95: The 2014 Winter Olympics are over. A big congrats to all the Olympians that received a medal this year. Congrats to Russia for winning the most medals this year, it’s pretty cool that they won the medal count when the Olympics were on their home soil. Congrats to Canada for winning the Hockey Gold Medal!! All right, enough with the Olympics, this is an MMO blog post for crying out loud!
I have a couple of World of Warcraft posts available this time. Mostly expansion related but there is a really cool transmog post I would encourage you to read if you’re interested. I found an interesting FFXIV post regarding its port to the PS4, plus some RIFT news. So now that we have all that Curling out of our system, lets check out whats happening in the MMO games. Enjoy!
Boosting to 90 Is Gonna Cost You
Posted 2.18.14 – One of the features Blizzard announced with the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion was the “instant level 90”. I think everyone will get a free one with the expansion. After the recent patching, WoW Insider noticed that there will be a cost associated with getting an Instant Level 90 and that price is $60. Personally, I think that’s a pretty hefty price tag for a free (MoP) max level toon. I honestly hope that there are some rules that will govern who can use this feature (ex: you must have at least one level 90 on the account already).

FFXIV PS4 Beta Available for Download
Posted 2.19.14 – If you have Sony’s latest game console then you can go out and download the beta client for the upcoming port of Final Fantasy XIV to PS4. I don’t own a PS4 so I don’t be among those downloading the beta but if you do own one you can grab it from the PlayStation Store but its a hefty 11 GB. The phase 1 beta test begins February 22nd and lasts until March 3rd. I’d be interested to hear impressions from folks that participate in this beta.

Interesting Transmog Post
Posted 2.20.14 – If you are really into the transmog feature of World of Warcraft then you might want to read this post on WoW Insider. They break down a lot of different kinds of transmog sets to make your character resemble many different icons from all corners of geek canon. I really like the look of the Batman and Superman transmog but there are so many great collections that its hard to choose a favorite. If you are trying to find something to do while we wait for Warlords of Draenor then check out this fun post.

Account-Wide Mounts in RIFT
Posted 2.21.14 – Trion Worlds has announced that all premium mounts will be available account wide. This became effective in the most recent patch. I haven’t played RIFT so I don’t know what a “premium mount” is but this only applies to them. They also had a 25% off sale on all the mounts in their store (that last until February 23rd). I provided a second link to the official announcement because it has the list of mounts that are account-wide.

Attunement Returning for H-LFG?
Posted 2.22.14 – I remember back in the day many players had to complete a series of quests in order to start raiding. We called this attunement. It really split the player base which is really why they removed the process. Now it looks like we are getting a form of attunement coming back in Warlords of Draenor, but it will only be required to queue for random heroic dungeons. You will need to have received a silver medal in the proving grounds for the spec you wish to queue as in the heroic dungeon. If you want to perform a different role, you will have to return to the proving grounds and receive the silver medal for that same spec.

Marvel Heroes Training Day Patch
Posted 2.24.14 – Game Update 2.3 went live for Marvel Heroes recently and the patch was called “Training Day”. The patch introduces a new mechanic to play where, courtesy of The S.H.I.E.L.D., players can participate, either alone or with a friend, in a simulation where you will face several different popular villains. Sounds pretty interesting. They also introduced a few other goodies.
