The Acolyte

On Day 1 of the Star Wars Celebration the cast of The Acolyte seem to receive the most attention. There were nine cast members across four interviews. All of these interviews can be seen on the Star Wars YouTube channel. Most of these folks are fairly unknown; a couple of these names might stand out. How much do you know about The Acolyte cast?

Carrie-Anne Moss is listed on the IMDB page but she was not interviewed. If you don’t recognize her name, you will recognize her face as Trinity from The Matrix movies.

I’ll try my best to keep this post from getting too verbose. I’ll try to follow a format similar to the voice dubbing post I did a couple of years ago. We do not know most of the names of any of these characters from The Acolyte.

Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-Jae

Amandla Stenberg made her film debut in 2011 when she was 10 years old. She was Cataleya in the Zoe Saldana action-thriller Colombiana. When she was 12 years old she was Rue in The Hunger Games. Lee Jung-Jae does not speak English; he had a translator on the stage with him during the interview. Most people probably recognize him from his leading role in Squid Game.

Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, and Charlie Barnett

Manny Jacinto is known for Jason Mendoza in The Good Place, which was his breakout role. He is also Fritz in Top Gun: Maverick. You may recognize Dafne Keen as X-23, aka Laura Kinney from the movie Logan and that’s about the extent of her known roles unless you are familiar with a show called His Dark Materials (Lyra Silvertongue). Charlie Barnett can be seen in Russian Doll, Ordinary Joe, and as John Diggle Jr. in Arrow.

Joonas Suotamo and Dean-Charles Chapman

Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca

I was surprised to hear that Joonas is in The Acolyte. He was not listed on the IMDB page prior to the Celebration. He will play a Wookie Jedi by the name of Kelnacca. Everyone should know him as the guy that took over as Chewbacca in the Solo movie and the sequel trilogy; he was trained by Peter Mayhew (RIP). Everyone will probably recognize Dean-Charles Chapman as Tommen Baratheon from Game of Thrones

Jodie Turner-Smith and Rebecca Henderson

The last two folks to be interviewed from The Acolyate are Jodie Turner-Smith and Rebecca Henderson. These two ladies are an enigma to me. I have not seen anything they have been in. According to IMDB, Jodie Turner-Smith’s biggest role was in a series called The Last Ship. Her husband is Joshua Jackson whom I do recognize as Charlie from The Mighty Ducks. Rebecca Henderson was also in Russian Doll and a couple of episodes of Westworld but she is married to Leslye Headland, one of the producers for The Acolyte, so that’s pretty cool. Leslye was also at the Celebration promoting the series.

This series was such a mystery when it was announced and, for a while, I was questioning why they chose to make it. I was also skeptical about Andor and that is a great series! Now that Star Wars Celebration is over and I’ve gotten to hear more about this series, I’m actually feeling a little excited about it. I am anxiously awaiting the first trailer.
