Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll

The Ahsoka series has me really digging Ray Stevenson’s character, Baylan Skoll. Unfortunately, we lost Ray back in May of this year (2023). In my opinion, he left on an incredibly high note. His character is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters in the franchise. It’s exciting and depressing. In honor of the late great actor, how much do you know about Ray Stevenson?

George Raymond Stevenson was born in Northern Ireland in 1964. He is of British and Irish descent; his father served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force. He was married and divorced once and had three sons with his partner Elisabetta Caraccia, an Italian anthropologist.

Star Wars and Other Filmography

Ray Stevenson is one of those actors where you saw him in something else and didn’t even know it. This is a common occurrence for me when I write on this topic. An example, in this case, was Isaak Sirko in Season 7 of Dexter. He was also Titus Pullo in the top-rated television show Rome.

His film career included such roles as Marcus Eaton in the Divergent Series, King Arthur, and he was one of three actors to portray Frank Castle (aka Punisher). You may also recognize him as Volstagg in two of the Thor movies.

Baylan Skoll was not his first Star Wars role. He provided the voice for Gar Saxon in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. However, Baylan Skoll will be his greatest role in the franchise and we will forever lament his passing. The following dedication appears at the end of the first episode of the Ahsoka series:

For our friend, Ray

RIP Ray Stevenson.
