Ahsoka Part Five

Title: Shadow Warrior
Directed By: Dave Filoni
Runtime: 51 minutes

We are past the halfway point. It’s fitting that the director for the episode that follows the mid-season episode is the man himself. The two words that have been echoing in our minds since last week, “Hey Snips”, will finally have context. Let’s talk about Ahsoka Part Five.

Favorite episode! I want to put that episode on repeat and watch it all day! It isn’t just Dave Filoni who gives us all the feelings but Kevin Kiner’s score as well! Let’s quickly recap.

After losing her fight with Baylan, Ahsoka finds herself in the World Between Worlds with her former master. Meanwhile, Hera searches for Ahsoka and Sabine on Seatos.

Amazing Imagery!

This episode provides something fans have been asking for since the Kenobi series, Clone Wars flashbacks. The imagery during those sequences was just amazing. The flashing between Anakin and Vader gave me literal chills and Kevin Kiner nails the music. I am trying to come up with an explanation as to what Anakin was. Is he a type of Force Ghost or is it some kind of Force manifestation to put Ahsoka back on her path? It seems, to me, that “good Anakin” is the path of life and “bad Anakin” is the path of death.

I guess what I’m saying is, was that really Anakin training her or was it the Force? Perhaps these are the questions Filoni wants to leave open for the rest of us to ponder. Either way, it’s awesome to see Hayden Christensen as Anakin again!

Also, the actress who plays young Ahsoka is rising star Ariana Greenblatt. Recently she was in the Barbie movie, 65 with fellow Star Wars thespian Adam Driver and she was a Young Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War.

Lessons and Force Tracking

As I said previously, I am surprised Dave brought in the World Between Worlds but now its purpose makes sense. In his own words, he’s said this place is more about knowledge; knowledge to use for the benefit of good or destruction. It’s not about time travel (which makes sense since messing with time is, well, messy). It is the perfect mechanism to teach Ahsoka one final lesson to bring her out of her gloom and realize her destiny.

Changing directions now. I love that we see Ahsoka use psychometry. This is a very rare Jedi power mostly used for tracking. We have seen it before. Rey uses it with Luke’s lightsaber in The Force Awakens but it’s featured prominently in Jedi Fallen Order (Cal Kestis) and the 2019 novel Force Collector (Karr Nuq Sin). Its actual first appearance is in Legends from The Courtship of Princess Leia.

It makes sense that Ahsoka would attempt what Ezra did and use the purrgil to reach Thrawn’s location. It’s a great throwback to the end of Rebels.

Did anyone else get a little choked up at the mention of “Senator Organa”? Of course, she would condone Hera’s actions because it’s something Leia would do.

But this scene … this scene will live, rent-free, in my mind. Forever. IYKYK.
