Title: Far, Far Away
Directed By: Jennifer Getzinger
Runtime: 48 minutes
How do you follow up on an episode like the one we saw last week? I do not expect another “banger” of an episode this week. In fact, with only three episodes left in this season, this episode’s purpose is to set up the final two. Here are my thoughts on Ahsoka Part Six.
First, we have a new director. Jennifer Getzinger is known for directing various episodes of Mad Men, Agent Carter, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones (to name a few). I think she does an excellent job in this episode.
The Eye of Sion reaches its destination, Peridea, the ancestorial home of the Dathomiri nightsisters. It is also where Thrawn has been banished and patiently waiting for Morgan Elsbeth to come and get him. The bigger question is, will Sabine also find Ezra?
Where Whales Go To Die
Peridea is a new planet to the franchise which is obvious since it’s located in another galaxy. Its rings are the skeletal remains of dead purrgil, a star whale graveyard. It’s really fun discovering new planets, especially when they are inhabited by endearing new species like the Noti.
Kevin Kiner does an amazing job again. I love the whimsical music you hear when we meet the Noti. It gives me John Williams vibes.
There was a part of me that thought Dave was waiting until the last two episodes before we saw Thrawn. However, the only way to follow up on last week’s episode is to give us Thrawn. It’s been a couple of years since I last watched an episode of Rebels, and it was still very surreal when Thrawn first spoke. You never forget that voice. It’s so great they got Lars Mikkelsen to reprise the role.
Unexpected Surprises
I’m glad we finally see Thrawn but I wasn’t surprised. I did not expect to see Nightsisters, and they look really good! The Nightsisters, under Mother Talzin, have been wiped out by Count Dooku and General Grievous. Their potential return has huge implications.
Finally, there’s Ezra. I was not expecting to see Ezra this season, or even at all. The casting has been spot-on in this series and Eman Esfandi as Ezra is no exception. This kid is in nothing I’ve seen but I’ll admit, he is giving me excellent Ezra vibes. When he first spoke it really sounded like Taylor Gray. I love that he has the grizzled Jedi Master look with the long hair and the beard. I cannot wait to see him wielding a lightsaber and dueling Baylan.
Also, I really want to know more about General Baylan? Who is this guy??
The next two episodes are going to be interesting and intense. Firing on Purrgils is a bad idea. I feel like they are gentle giants that are aggressively protective. If you attack the pod, they are going to mess you up!
