Issue 31

Hello again Gamers!! The news rolls have been busy lately announcing patches going live and public beta weekends. It is a great time to be a gamer as many of our favorite franchises and games are on the list of betas and patches. The biggest dilemma to face gamers right now is which game to play!!

This issue has information about Guild Wars 2 and Diablo III public beta weekends. New patch details and more patch information for RIFT, DC Universe and SWTOR. Personally I don’t know what I want to participate in as I am really enjoying the SWTOR 1.2 Game Update but I am anxious to check out Diablo III. What will all of you be doing??

Diablo III Open Beta Weekend

Posted 4/20/12 – Blizzard has probably made the dreams of millions of gamers come true when they announced that the weekend of 4/20 – 4/23 is open beta for Diablo III. The flood gates open at noon PDT (3:00pm EST) and it will run until 10:00am PDT (1:00pm EST) Monday. Anyone with a Battle.net account will be able to download the client and enter the beta and they are encouraging as many as possible for load testing. Follow the links below to read more.

Guild Wars 2 Announces Public Beta Weekend

Posted 4/18/12 – Guild Wars 2 fans and players, mark your calendars for the weekend of April 27th – 29th, that will be the weekend of the first public beta. The announcement was made on Twitter but there weren’t too many details provided other then how to obtain a beta key. So far it seems that the only way to get a key is to pre-order the game, which leaves out several that are unsure about playing it. Follow the link to read some more.

RIFT Patch 1.8: Infernal Dawn Live!

Posted 4/18/12 – Content patch 1.8 for RIFT is now live on all servers. I don’t actually play RIFT so I don’t really know all the goodies that might be part of this patch but based on some of the things that I have read, this patch include a new raid (Infernal Dawn) as well as some new world event. Apparently there are two new tradeskills: fishing and survival. I can’t say that either of those sound all that great. Follow the link to read more and see the trailer.

DCUO Patch 12 Goes Live

Posted 4/18/12 – SOE is updated live servers with Game Update 12 for DC Universe Online. Based on what I have read it seems this patch just contains features to make things more convenient for players and alt-aholics. They apparently redesigned the bank UI so it makes more sense to players and there is now an option to purchase additional character slots. Follow the link to read more about it.

SWTOR Zombie Apocalypse

Posted 4/16/12 – Ok, so its not zombies, its Rakghouls but its actually mildly entertaining to watch your toon become infected and eventually explode only to infect everyone around you. Unlike WoW’s attempt at a zombie infestation (pre-WOTLK world event), becoming infected is actually part of some new dailies available on Tatooine. Its actually kind of fun. Another Shamless Plug

Posted 4/16/12 – Yes, I am plugging another one of my own posts, this time it is about my impressions of the latest SWTOR content patch. This patch is the biggest content update since launch so I wrote up what I thought of the changes that I have experienced thus far though I could not comment on everything since I don’t PvP much and I don’t have a toon that is eligible for the new Operation. Follow the link to check it out.

Crafting in Pathfinder Online

Posted 4/12/12 – The developers for Pathfinder Online have taken a pretty interesting approach to crafting. I admit that I really liked the approach Bioware took with crafting professions in SWTOR but Pathfinder Online will have an even greater level of detail. Even if you don’t intend to play this game, I would still check out this article just to read more about their approach to crafting. Perhaps it will be another paradigm to consider for future MMOs.
