Grogu Chapter 24

Title: The Return
Director: Rick Famuyima
Runtime: 41 minutes

This is it, folks! The season three finale! I can’t believe it’s already been eight weeks since the season started. There are no Easter eggs this time. If you watched the episode last week then you know exactly where we left off, so let’s discuss it.

Chapter 24 picks up right where the last episode left off, obviously. Bo-Katan and the rest of the Mandalorians are fighting to retake their home world and Din Djarin has been captured.

Everything You Know Is Wrong

This is another example where you can’t believe everything you read on the Internet. For example, I saw several tweets which claimed this episode is 38 minutes when it’s actually 41. Granted once you remove the recap and the intro it might be about 38 minutes. This is not as somber of an ending as we were led to believe.

In fact, this has a much more succinct conclusion than I was expecting. Everything about this finale is different than what most people were expecting, including myself. The only casualties were the Darksaber (which is almost like losing a main character) and Moff Gideon.

Although, was that the real Moff Gideon or a clone? Perhaps he made a clone of himself outside of his other experiments. I’m not all that surprised that he created clones of himself. He’s conceited enough to think only “he” can bring order to the galaxy. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Giancarlo Esposito.

We still don’t know who the spies are. It seems too obvious that it was just the Shadow Council. I remain suspicious (of the Armorer).

Praetorian Guards from The Last Jedi

Grogu was finally useful! He’s just been background and comic relief this entire season. The way he and Din Djarin work together to fight off the Praetorian Guards is pretty fun. It gave me slight vibes from The Last Jedi fight scene in the throne room.

I’m slightly disappointed that we did not have any cameos or a segue into Ahsoka; not even a post-credits scene. However, the exchange between Teva and Din Djarin at the end suggests we might see him in the Ahsoka series.

I love that Din Djarin just sits down to chill at the end. It gives me Cara Dune vibes in the episode where she suggests he just settles down somewhere.

I’ll do a final thoughts on this season, but I might go back and watch it again first.
