Title: Guns for Hire
Director: Bryce Dallas Howard
Runtime: 45 minutes
I can’t believe we only have two more weeks of The Mandalorian and then a Star Wars break until Ahsoka comes out (assuming that is the next series). This episode takes a slight left turn from the normal formula, although the end has massive implications. Chapter 22 is also full of celebrity cameos, new and returning.
Din and Bo Katan are out to try to reunite all of Mandalore, per the Armorer’s request. Their mission takes them to a rather pretentious planet where the “organics” do nothing and the droids do all the work. L3 would not approve!
This is another fun episode, that I really enjoyed. It wasn’t just the cameos but that ending too!
New and Familiar Faces
I’m not really going to get into Easter Eggs. All of Chapter 22 is essentially an Easter Egg. The references to The Clone Wars, battle droids, super battle droids, and droids of all varieties are too many to discuss. The celebrity cameos, however, we can call out.
Let’s talk about the exciting, new celebrity cameos. Jack Black, as Bombardier, is awesome, although it shouldn’t surprise me that he would find his way into Star Wars. I mean, at this point, who doesn’t want their name in the credits? Did anyone else notice the fact that Bombardier refers to Bo Katan as “Princess Kryze” and “Your Grace”? He is familiar with her family and her past. Very Interesting.
His character’s wife, the Duchess, is played by singer, songwriter Lizzo. I’m not too familiar with her music but others may find her cameo just as exciting as the others.
Christopher Lloyd’s appearance in this season has been talked about for several months. The 84-year-old finally makes his appearance. Admit it, we were all hoping for a “Great Scott!”.
The returning faces are Axe Roves and Koska Reeves. Mercedes Varnado (aka Sasha Banks) reprises the role of Koska and Simon Kassianides is back as Axe Roves.
The episode ends with reconciling a plot point many pointed out back in the second episode (Chapter 18). When Bo-Katan rescues Din from the droid she, technically, can rightfully claim the Darksaber. Din recognizes this and finally awards it to her, thus giving her what she needs to finally rule Mandalore.
Congrats Bo-Katan. Your sister would be proud.
