Andor Episode 11

I love the symmetry of this scene with Rogue One

Title: Daughter of Ferrix
Director: Benjamin Caron

This is the penultimate episode. Andor (and Melshi) have escaped their prison on Narkina 5. Where are they going next? Perhaps to recover Cassian’s money? Maybe to Ferrix to check on Maarva? What about the Spellhaus attack? Let’s talk about Andor Episode 11!

We are building to a crescendo as Cassian is again a fugitive from the Empire. A moniker he will have for the rest of his life. As he and Melshi plan their next moves, Luthen and Mon Mothma are forced to make more sacrifices for the Rebellion.

Andor Episode 10

Andor Episode 10

Title: One Way Out
Director: Toby Haynes

Time for the great escape. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry will be watching this episode (IYKYK). It’s hard to believe we only have two episodes left after this one and then we have to wait until 2024 for Season 2! Be that as it may, let’s discuss the events of Andor Episode 10.

This is another exceptional episode. Some great edge-of-your-seat action and suspense. There is also more exceptional acting, which I will get to later. This episode is everything I wanted in a Star Wars-themed prison break. You really get the sense that not all of these guys are hardened criminals. In fact, most of them, like Cassian, may be wrongfully imprisoned.

Thoughts on Tales of the Jedi

Tales of the Jedi

Last Wednesday, along with the 8th episode of Andor, Disney also released a series of animated shorts called Tales of the Jedi. There are six in total, the longest episode is about 18 minutes. They cover specific significant moments in the lives of Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano. I am going to cover some of my thoughts on Tales of the Jedi but in doing so, there will be spoilers.

First, before the spoiler warning, I want to say that I did enjoy these shorts. I didn’t watch them immediately, but I now see why everyone enjoys them so much. I hope they make more but perhaps about other Jedi because it’s cool to get different perspectives on these characters. A Leia and Rey series of shorts would be amazing!

Spoilers Ahead!!!

Andor Episode 9

Andor Episode 9

Title: Nobody’s Listening
Director: Toby Haynes

When we last saw Cassian he was in prison with his soon-to-be buddy Melshi, making parts for, presumably, the Death Star. Vel and Cinta are hunting him while his friends and mother are being repressed and interrogated by the Imperial presence on Ferrix. Let’s discuss Andor Episode 9.

For a “middle” episode, this one is pretty intense. Andy Serkis and Diego Luna’s performances in this episode are amazing. I’m a fan of Snoke, but this is Andy’s best role and performance as a Star Wars character!

Andor Episode 8

Andor Episode 8

Title: Narkina 5
Director: Toby Haynes

Andor Episode 8 has dropped and we have some questions after the events of last week’s episode. For instance, we know Andor isn’t in prison for six years (that would put his release around the time of Empire Strikes Back). So how does he get out of prison? Did we get our answers?? We did not but I wasn’t expecting that to happen in this episode. This is the first episode in the third 3-story arc of the season. Therefore it’s safe to assume Andor is in prison for at least one more episode with the escape happening in Episode 10.

So how does he escape? And who helps him?

Andor Episode 7

Andor Episode 7

Title: Announcement
Director: Benjamin Caron

In a recent interview Tony Gilroy explains that this episode will be a standalone episode; breaking the pattern we’ve seen in the first half of the season. Technically, Andor episode 7 does as he describes, although it does end in a bit of a cliffhanger. There is also a new director, Benjamin Caron, who has directed episodes of The Crown and Sherlock.

I really like this episode. The espionage and intrigue takes a big step up in this episode. As the galaxy and the Empire responds to the robbery on Aldhani, the Rebellion is beginning. It’s probably Fiona Shaw’s best performance in the series (thus far).
