We were bullied because we were smarter than you, because we could thrive without trying, because you felt threatened by us. We warned you to be kind to us because you should feel threatened. We had many mantras.

“Be nice to geeks, you’ll probably end up working for one”

“Geeks, will one day, inherit the Earth.”

“Geeks rule the World”

Well now the geeks have inherited the Earth, and we remember! Our minds are steel traps. We haven’t forgotten who bullied and tortured us. Your misplaced machismo may have brought us down on the outside, but it steeled our willpower and drove our ambitions. Now we are the timid tormentors. We are the kings of passive retribution. There are now more of us than there are of you. We may hide behind our monitors and tablets, but that is to disguise our numbers. We may dress like Jedi, Nintendo princesses, hobbits and wizards but that doesn’t mean our resolve has been weakened. We dress as creatures of power because we are creatures of power!

Now we pray on your insecurities and inadequacies. While you sleep, we are building empires but now as CEO, CTO, CIO and even as actors and actresses. Now we control your fate as yours employer and your superiors. Most of us do it as presidents and board members; or we enter your homes through your televisions and Blu-ray players; but there are those of us that do it … “anonymously”, from afar. We know your secrets because we have silently infiltrated your life. Our manifesto from the ’80’s still applies today. You live in our world now! You cannot hide from us; we are smarter than you, remember?

We are abundant.

We are everywhere.

We are watching you.

And we tried to warn you – now go empty the trash!

I’ll admit the Warcraft movie looks pretty good. I hope it changes the stigma of pretty much all games-made-into-movies from the past. I doubt this will be as good as The Force Awakens, but that’s probably because I’m a much bigger fan of Star Wars than I am of Warcraft (and I seriously doubt it will make $900 million). Netflix Wins Again with Jessica Jones

Netflix Wins Again with Jessica JonesI just finished watching the first season of Jessica Jones. It’s the newest Marvel series Netflix has produced starring Krysten Ritter (from “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23“). Jessica Jones has a scarred and tortured past. She’s a private investigator in Hell’s Kitchen with  superhuman strength and has a penchant for drowning her pain in whiskey. This is the first Marvel series produced since its success with Daredevil, and Netflix wins again with Jessica Jones.

I will admit that the first episode doesn’t really pull you in as quickly as the episodes that follow. Once you start learning more about Killgrave (brilliantly portrayed by David Tennant) and his sordid obsession with Jessica, you will binge on this show. By the end of the series you will see Krysten Ritter in a whole new light. She proved to me that she is an amazing drama actress. You will also meet Luke Cage, another series Netflix is working on, and the future husband (based on the comics) of Jessica Jones. He’s the man with unbreakable skin.

The first season naturally focuses on character development using Killgrave as the main antagonist to introduce us to part of Jessica’s past and her abilities. It also sets up the presumed relationship between Jessica and Luke. By the end of the season there is even a subtle hint of a potential Daredevil-Jessica Jones crossover? After all, both series take place in Hell’s Kitchen.

Jessica Jones has been renewed for a second season. I would check it out but with the caveat that this show is definitely not safe for children (there is lewd language and sexual situations). Season 2 of Daredevil will start on March 18th so if you haven’t checked out Season 1, you still have time.

Issue 139: Cancer Sucks! We lost two icons this week to cancer’s wickedness. There was nobody else in the world that would have been a better cast as Snape, although many of us probably remember him better as Hans Gruber; and who could forget Jareth the Goblin King and his “Magic Dance“. May Alan Rickman and David Bowie Rest In Peace. Sadness aside, while we silently mourn these two irreplaceable entertainers lets check out some gaming headlines that will hopefully lighten our moods.

There are a couple of posts that are not directly related to any title but they are crucial aspects of typical game-play, you all know how I like to change things up from time-to-time. There is news about a new game launch this week (a little game called Blade & Soul) and a contagious opinion piece on Star Wars The Old Republic. So while the “white death” (that’s snow for you non-Cincinnatians) keeps you in-doors, check out these headlines. KCGO.

And That’s Why I Don’t Watch The Oscars

SoapboxI used to watch the Oscars like I watch the Super Bowl. In fact I used to play the Oscar game (i.e. predict the winners of all the categories) and I was pretty good at it, however since 8 Mile won best song, I haven’t watched the Oscars. I think the Academy plays favorites, or they are in the pockets of the production studios that win top prize. I don’t know why certain movies/actors are chosen,  but whether its favoritism or kickbacks, The Academy lacks objectivity. This is exactly what drives me crazy about the “call to boycott” the Oscars by Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee and why I don’t watch the Oscars anymore.

I will be surprised if race has anything to do with the alleged “lack of diversity” in the Oscar nominations. I mean, God forbid its because the movies weren’t Oscar worthy. Smith and Lee are basically asking The Academy to play favorites, as if the nominations are not already fixed. If she wants Will Smith to win an Oscar then he needs to be in a movie that is actually good enough to warrant a nod (and Concussion looked boring, and didn’t seem to get that great of a response). How dare The Academy expect actors to do their job well!!

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, Hollywood is already full of arrogant, self-entitled fools. All those actors and actresses out there trying to “make a better world” are just trying to build publicity and get their 15 minutes. I would be surprised if any of them really give a damn about “free health care” and “equal rights”. “Humanitarianism” is just a PR buzz-word;  besides most of them are too belligerent from their recent drug-and-alcohol-induced fugue to take seriously anyway. The lack of black Oscar nominations is probably item 4,657 on the list of racial injustices, maybe Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee should focus their righteous efforts on something that will actually have an impact on humanity.imma-let-you-finish

I hope Kanye West wasn’t invited to the Oscars, although it might be pathetically hilarious if Jada Pinkett Smith pulls a “Kanye West” …

Book Review: Winter

In my reviews of the previous books I think I’ve mentioned how cleverly written all the books for the Lunar Chronicles are and Winter was just as good. When you have a long series of books (i.e. more than three) sometimes characters and plots can get lost and thus when you finish off the series sometimes you feel there are still some things left unanswered. I do not feel that was the case with Winter. I think Meyer did a perfect job ending the book just right. In fact I think she could continue the story if she wanted to, or perhaps some spin-off books? *hint**hint*

I want to warn you know that I am going to talk about a spoiler so if you haven’t read Winter yet then I would definitely stop reading right now. If you do stop, I do want to leave you with my recommendation that you definitely read this book, of course if you have started reading the Lunar Chronicles, I don’t know why you wouldn’t read the last book.

***spoiler alert*** The one thing I kind of wish was different about the end of the book was Levana’s death. It was dramatic in that as she’s stabbing Cinder in the chest with the knife, Cinder simply shoots her through the head. I can kind of see that as a Hollywood ending but considering all the emphasis on the Lunar gift and how Cinder could be more powerful than Levana, I was hoping to see Cinder destroy Levana’s mind not only as retribution for all the people she’s killed but for causing Winter’s Lunar sickness.

If Meyer were to consider a spin-off book or series, I think creating some adventures with Thorne and Cress could be interesting and perhaps even an opportunity to incorporate some more nostalgic fairy tale characters.
