Issue 82: Greetings gamers!! It was brought to my attention that I don’t talk about Final Fantasy enough and thus this issue is titled as such. Fear not, there are some headlines about FFXIV included in this issue, I didn’t skate around your feedback by merely titling this issue after the game 🙂 By the way, I encourage folks to make these kinds of suggestions. I don’t know what games folks like to read about so if there is a specific game that you would like for me to include, please let me know.
So, beyond some Final Fantasy XIV news, there is also a pretty cool video to check out from the Infinite Crisis beta testing. Some changes coming to those farming heroes in Marvel Heroes. There is talk of an in-game store with micro-transactions coming to Patch 5.4 of the current World of Warcraft expansion; and more beta news for Elder Scrolls Online. I also included a headline about Hearthstone. I know its not an MMO in the truest sense of the word, but if MMO sites are talking about it, I thought perhaps I should mention it as well.
The Hearthstone Game board?
Posted 7.12.13 – If you hadn’t heard about Blizzard’s latest project, its called Heartstone. Its an online, turn-based card game. I’m not much of a card game player, though I did sign up for the beta (which is allegedly starting soon) because I thought I would at least check it out. During the latest data mining of the upcoming 5.4 patch, someone may have uncovered the model for the Hearthstone game board. The picture of said game board can be seen in the WoW Insider post.

Do You Need A New Marvel Hero?
Posted 7.12.13 – Marvel Heroes will be making it easier for players to acquire new heroes in the game. If you haven’t tried out Marvel Heroes yet, you can unlock additional heroes via loot drops. Apparently Gazillion isn’t very satisfied with this process and have decided to implement a new method. Instead players can receive “splinters” as drops, which is a new currency that can be used to unlock said heroes, or other game components.

Infinite Crisis Video Showing Off Batman
Posted 7.11.13 – If you haven’t looked into Infinite Crisis, you should check it out. Its still in beta but its a League of Legends style of game but with comic book heroes. I think one of the more interesting, and unique, aspects of this game are the style variations of the heroes (ex: Steampunk Joker). I thought that this video on Massively’s website provides an excellent look at the style of the game using one of the best comic book heroes, Batman.

beta! More ESO Beta Invites Starting
Posted 7.913 – Beta invites have started going out for Elder Scrolls Online. They did some early beta invites back in March but they are sending out more as the launch date draws closer. Participants will be notified via email and it looks like the beta windows will be happening on the weekends. The link to the article contains a gallery of screenshots from the game. You can still sign up to become eligible for a beta by going to the official website. Anyone already have one?

FFXIV Not Coming to XBox One
Posted 7.9.13 – Microsoft learned the hard way that gamers are a very social group of people. If you are not allowing us to share our games between friends and even across platforms, then you’re dead to us. Square Enix has announced the platforms they intend to release Final Fantasy XIV on and the XBox One is not on the list. They admitted they chose not to release for Microsoft’s new console because it doesn’t allow cross-platform play. I think this is a huge blow to the XBox.

Blizzard Implementing In-Store Game
Posted 7.9.13 – If you have been following any of the Patch 5.4 PTR news you may have heard the rumor about an in-game store. Blizzard has already kind of had micro-transactions in the form of their pet store, but you always had to be out of the game to do that. Apparently they are toying with the idea of putting that functionality in the game and its causing quite the tumult. I think it makes sense as long as its for commodity purposes only, but once you introduce advantages for players with money you will have the proverbial storming of the Bastille.

FFXIV Beta Phase 3 Testing Begins
Posted 7.9.13 – It has been indicated to me that I do not include many articles about Final Fantasy so when I saw this headline, I made sure I included it in this issue (for you, Josh). I often forget that there are still plenty of avid FF fans out there. By the time this post reaches you, the final beta testing of phase 3 for Final Fantasy XIV will have begun. This is the final closed beta, which ends on July 15th. Phase 4 will be an “open beta”. The launch of FFXIV is slated for August 27th.
