Issue 84: Yes, I want a Tauntaun! Gives me tauntaun, now! I mean, what better way to travel around any planet. Yea, I know they smell bad, but think of the versatility. You don’t have to pay for gas, they’ll probably just eat whatever they can find laying around, and if you find yourself freezing to death in the tundra, just cut them open and you’ve got yourself a nice, warm carcass!
Tauntaun disembowelment aside, we have a few headlines to read up on, including the inspiration for the title of this issue (and the rather grotesque introduction). We are between conferences right now as SDCC has ended and Gamescom is next week but there are still some tidbits popping up from both conferences. Aion has some new content to share, SWTOR (obviously!), news about the World of Warcraft movie, and more! So curl up inside your favorite tauntaun (or just buy one of these) and enjoy!
Aion 4.5 Introduces Aethertechs
Posted 7.18.13 – In Aion 4.5 players will have access to a new class called Aethertech. This is definitely not a typical class. In fact I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s almost as if NCSoft said “hmm, MechWarrior was cool, let’s make a mech class for Daevas!”. When you watch the video you will see what I mean. The combat of the class does look pretty cool, but seems a bit too modern.

ZOMG! Tauntauns!!
Posted 7.19.13 – Yes, SWTOR is getting tauntaun mounts sometime in the future. You know how there comes a time when a concept is introduced to a game, no matter how minute, and all of a sudden you NEED to play it again. I think Tauntaun mounts is that for me. I suddenly really want a tauntaun mount and it might mean that I have to come up with the appropriate funding to get the expansion and start leveling again!

World of Warcraft Movie Trailer at SDCC
Posted 7.21.13 – Blizzard and Warner Brothers teased SDCC attendees this year with a short teaser trailer for the upcoming movie rendition of World of Warcraft. Unfortunately the video doesn’t seem to be on the Internet anywhere. There is a link in the Massively article to a Mountain Dew commercial that apparently is the closest thing we will get to seeing the trailer before its official release. Filming will start in 2014. I wonder if it will be any good.

Live! Runscape 3 Launches!
Posted 7.23.13 – For all of you Runscape fans, the third iteration of the game has officially gone live. The 12 year old franchise received a huge update. I’ve never played the original Runescape but I’d bet that RS3 looks absolutely nothing like the original. I think what is going to be the most interesting concept this game offers is the “player-driven dynamic events”. I don’t think there are many other games (in the MMO genre) that has this kind of content (though I seem to recall Guild Wars 2 trying something like it – if someone could confirm that).
There is a trailer with the post.

SWTOR Game Update 2.2.3 Live!
Posted 7.23.13 – When Bioware brought the servers down for maintenance this past week, they also implemented patch 2.2.3. This is a minor patch which mostly adds quality of life changes, some new items in the cartel store and the usual array of bug fixes and game tweaks. Darth Hater, as always, has the pretty comprehensive patch notes.

Firefall Open Beta Trailer
Posted 7.25.13 – Every now and then I like to throw some random MMO title into these issues so we don’t always talk about the same six games. Red 5 Studios released a teaser trailer for the open beta of their upcoming Firefall title. The game, graphically, looks beautiful and succeeds as a trailer. Interested players will have to wait until Gamescom to learn more about this title.
