January always seems to drag on and yet I’m still late writing this post. I guess it’s been a little busy but perhaps I was also just being lazy. It’s not been easy getting motivated to do anything. My actions were as frozen as the city around me, but that’s starting to change. So let’s get into my 2025 goals.
Wellness Goals
If you’ve been reading along I did complete my first Half Marathon and I’m super proud of myself for having done it. There is not a chance I am doing a full marathon next, however, I will do another half marathon. I’ve already signed up. The goal this year will be to finish in less time than I did last year (i.e. 3 hours).
I’m still working on getting my snacking habits under control. Honestly, I think the key to that is to drink more water and I’m thinking about trying to cut back on my sugar intake. That journey begins after I return from my guys’ trip to Wisconsin on Super Bowl weekend.
Hopefully, I will be able to return to more diligently tracking my “Run to Mordor” exercise challenge. I have an app that can help me track my progress but it wasn’t very reliable last year. I’m to continue to use it to the best of my ability this year but I’m still in the hunt for something better and more reliable.
Also, it is officially a 2025 goal to drop at least 15 pounds.
2025 Reading Challenge
Although I read 13 books last year I am keeping my Goodreads reading challenge at 12 books. Also, since I did not read any of the books from my read again list, shown below, I hope to knock a couple of this year.
Kubrick’s GameThe Inheritance Cycle(4/4)Lunar Chronicles*- Harry Potter (7)
- Divergent Series (3)
- Thrawn Trilogy (OG/Legends)
- The Dresden Files (1/17)
- Lord of the Rings (3)
- Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (5)
- Hunger Games Trilogy
- Ender’s Game
Technical Goals
This year I have aligned my personal technical goals with one of my work goals. I want to spend significant time really learning React. The goal for my job is to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME – pronounced “smee” like the pirate). This implies not just a base understanding but advanced concepts as well.
I will also continue my crusade to use as little AI as possible. Everything can be accomplished with perseverance and hard work instead of cutting corners with AI.
If I accomplish my technical goals, I foresee a big update to some of my personal web projects … and maybe even some new projects.
And those are my 2025 goals; look for a post in June to see my progress.
/cheers
