Title: The Axe Forgets
Director: Susanna White
Andor Episode 5 is another solid episode. There isn’t much in the terms of action, but we do see some group storming and, maybe the beginning of some norming. The group storming and norming I’m talking about is the group Cassian has joined. This episode is primarily about his proving his worth. There is some great character development in this episode. Before I get into that I want to hit you with the spoiler warning.

Developing Characters and Easter Eggs
I’m starting to enjoy the deeper dive into Mon Mothma’s life. If Tony Gilroy’s intention was to make Perrin a major douche and hated among the fans, I’d say he succeeded. He’s a major twat. He’s pompous and pretentious, the kind of guy you might find at the casino’s on Canto Bight. However, it’s still character development when he can illicit that kind of emotional response from viewers.
If you didn’t know, in the New Essential Guide to Characters, published in 2002, Mon Mothma did have a daughter. Actually she had two children, Lieda and Jobin. Jobin is Lieda’s brother and he dies defending the Rebel base on Hoth in Empire Strikes Back. I guess that means Lieda counts as an Easter egg.
There are other Easter eggs in this episode. It’s interesting, Tony Gilroy alleged there would be no fan service but there have been plenty in the past two episodes. Perhaps the art department decided otherwise in Episode 4. There is one really interesting Easter egg in this episode. When Cassian is discussing Skeen’s tattoos he mentions “By the Hand”. This could be a reference to the Emperor’s Hand, which could be either Grand Admiral Thrawn or Gar Saxon from Rebels (or both?).
I’m also noticing a trend with these episodes. Every third episode there is a major event and the two previous episodes build up to it. Next week is also the sixth episode and the halfway point of the season. I expect that this will be either a long episode or a two part episode. At some point the two side stories (Mon Mothma and Syril Karn) will converge with Cassian’s story. I’m not expecting that to happen now, however, based on the pattern we could see two arcs that brings them together in the second half.
