New Republic Senators

Title: Time to Fly
Directed By: Steph Green
Runtime: 36 minutes

This is the first episode that takes place after Season Four of Rebels. Part One and Part Two are technically still Season Four. They occur during the time jump at the end of the final episode. If you exclude the recap and credits, this is a shorter episode, less than a half hour. With that said, let’s talk about Ahsoka Part Three.

Warning! The following contains spoilers for Ahsoka Part Three.

While there is some action, this is one of those “move the story along” kinds of episodes. However, there are some surprises if you’ve seen Rebels or perhaps some confusion if you haven’t. We also have our first, indirect, link to the sequel trilogy. Let’s recap the episode before we get into the Easter Eggs and Rebels references.

The tracking beacon brings Ahsoka and (padawan) Sabine to the planet Seatos. Meanwhile, Hera is meeting with New Republic Senators in hopes of providing Ahsoka with additional support.

Easter Eggs and Jedi Training

Ahsoka training Sabine using Zatoichi is a nod back to A New Hope when Obi-Wan trained Luke. I really enjoyed this scene; I’ve known a few martial arts instructors who would have employed a similar method of training. I also love the homage they pay to George Lucas’ explanation of the Force.

It’s not something you can acquire – it’s something you can learn to use. I have the power to lift that cup off the table using the Force, but I can’t do it unless I have been trained to do it.

Speaking of nods to the other films, I’m sure everyone recognizes Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma (from Andor). However, I want to direct your attention to Senator Xiono. This is the indirect nod toward the Sequel Trilogy. He is the father of Kaz Xiono, the main protagonist of Star Wars Resistance. Kaz is a Resistance spy recruited by Poe Dameron.

Evan Whitten is perfectly cast as our live-action Jacen Syndulla, the child of Hera and Jedi Master Kanan Jarrus. I’m sure the remark about Jacen wanting to be a Jedi pulled on our heartstrings.

Finally, my favorite part. Our first, live-action look at the Purrgils. They look so good!
