The MMO Times: Thanks For Your Sacrifice!

mmotimesheaderIssue 75: Happy Memorial Day, Gamers. While spending your three-day weekend “pwning noobs”, raiding or questing, please remember our service men and women who gave their lives so that we may have the freedom to pwn noobs. Please take some time this weekend to come out from behind the computer or gaming console, go to a cook out, visit a cemetery of fallen soldiers, and remember those that fought for this country.

A lot of patches went live last week but the one that stands out to me the most was the WoW patch 5.3, which apparently has had several hot fixes since it went live. In fact instead of the 5.4 talks starting, its all been blue posts containing details of what was recently hot fixed. I have been hearing some good things about the SWTOR patch; post your feedback and comments with your thoughts.

MechWarrior Online has a new map they are showing off, Guild Wars 2 is a little easier to afford, and we are on the cusp of the Marvel Heroes release. I’m a couple of headlines short this issue because of the impending holiday weekend but I hope there are headlines here that strike your fancy! Read on and game on, friends!

The MMO Times: Spring Into Summer

mmotimesheaderIssue 73: G’day Gamers! The summer is almost upon us which means patches and updates are coming as students are released from the shackles of educational institutions. Many of our favorite MMOs have some plans for the summer and some of those updates are starting as soon as next week! As an avid gamer myself, while I am excited for all the new content, I still plan on getting outside regularly to indulge in the warmth of the sunshine. I hope you all do the same.

So what goodies are in store for you in this issue of the MMO Times? How about a new MWO mech, more DCUO content, SWTOR patches (note the plural), etc. Also, don’t forget the plethora of details coming out about the next World of Warcraft content patch, 5.3 (which has allegedly started downloading in the background). There won’t be any raids but there will be new scenarios and more quality of life tweaks. Read on and game on, friends!

The MMO Times: The Thunder King Cometh

mmotimesheaderIssue 66: Greetings Gamers! If you’re playing WoW then you know that Tuesday is/was patch day and you may need something to read while waiting for the servers to come back online. There is also the chance that nothing will be working once they do, though Blizzard has been better lately about keeping the realms stable on patch days.

So if you’re looking for something to read you can check out this issue which contains the patch notes for the WoW patch but also a Star Trek Online teaser, Blizzard PAX news, and some more information on Age of Wushu and the Guild Wars 2 February patch. Read on and game on, friends.

The MMO Times: Before The Dark Knight Rises

Issue 41

Greetings again, Gamers! Now that all the hype of Comic-Con is out of our systems we are all watching diligently for news of the next big titles. Granted Gamescom is coming up and there might be a few surprises for MMO gamers. I know everyone is also anxiously awaiting the final Batman movie (to begin at midnight tonight) so here are some articles to keep you occupied while you wait in the lines.

In this issue there is more news for those awaiting MechWarrior Online, more news about SWTOR despite all the vile hatred spewing from some gamers and MMO “pundits”, and the reviews are in for The Secret World. Read on gamers and don’t spoil the ending of Batman for those that haven’t seen it yet.

The MMO Times: Let’s Make Everything An MMO!

Issue 21

Hello gamers! This issue is full of more announcements of things that are, and some that never should be, MMOs in the making. Enjoy.

A Total Recall MMO in Production (Unfortunately)

There are just some days when you read something like this and all you can do is /facepalm. Why in the world of Azeroth would someone want to make an MMO based on Total Recall?!? Its not like that was the best movie ever made, its just popular because of “tri-boob chick” (WARNING: NSFW!!!). Anyway, I found this post on a website called Gamasutra that Sony Pictures is behind this atrocity.

Game of Thrones MMO Announced

I haven’t read this series yet, but its on my ToDo list. I’m not surprised, based on the success of the novels and the TV mini-series, that the possibility of an MMO would emerge. Bigpoint has announced that they are working on making an GoT MMO.

Lineage Eternal Announced

NCSoft announced that there will be a third installment of the Lineage universe called Lineage Eternal. It was announced at the Korean equivalent of E3 and the author of the article feels that there will be no doubt Lineage Eternal will be release overseas.I found the announcement at a website called The Sixth Axis but Massively also had a trailer.

STO Will Be F2P 01-17-2012

Finally something to talk about that doesn’t refer to a new MMO. A few months ago I found an announcement that Cryptic would be making Star Trek Online Free-2-Play. I found an article from a website called Ology that gives the date STO will be F2P, January 17, 2012. I think I saw somewhere that Tom’s Hardware also had the announcement.

4.3 Valor and Conquest Point Changes

WoW Insider has an article about what to expect in regards to acquiring valor points when 4.3 drops. It looks like Firelands will still drop Valor Points, just fewer valor points and Dragon Soul will drop twice that. Check out the article for more details.

Mists of Pandaria Recap

MMO-Champion has the best recap of Blizzcon 2011 including videos and and links to the all of the details around the new World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria. I will be honest, I’m not a fan of the name but some of the new features do have me a bit geeked out. So check out the link and see what you think (I also provided the Massively link, they have some good stuff too).

Transformers Universe Q&A Recap

Jagex held a Q&A session at the New York Comic Con this year for the upcoming Transformers Universe. There were quite a few things discussed about it so check out the Massively article to read more about it. I haven’t looked too much into this MMO yet but I am mildly interested so I might try to see if I can get into a beta or something.

A Look At SWTOR Editions

MMOMFG has a pretty good article that discusses the various editions that you can pre-order for SWTOR. There are three editions available, Digital Deluxe, Collector’s Edition (which I have already pre-ordered) and the Standard Edition. I thought a long time about just getting the Standard Edition but the more I played the beta the more I enjoyed the game and decided that, while pricey, I enjoyed the game enough to warrant paying the cost.

SWTOR Flashpoints & Warzones

In The Old Republic, Flashpoints are Instances and Warzones are PvP Battlegrounds and ars technica has an article with some decent details on these features. They also have the Signs of War trailer. I haven’t tried the Warzones yet, but I have done some Flashpoints and they are pretty fun and fit well with the storyline (though they haven’t integrated class storylines but I hope they plan on doing that).
