The MMO Times: Lots of Beta Going On

Issue 49: Greetings again, Gamers! I hope all of you have been enjoying your time in Pandaria (if that is your game of choice right now, if not then I hope you are enjoying the realms of your other games). I took an extra couple of days for this issue so we could have a few additional headlines to talk about. There hasn’t been too much going on in the MMO world since there was so much that has gone live in the past couple of weeks.

In this issue there are several beta announcements. You will see beta news for RIFT, The War Z and Marvel Heroes. Some interesting statistics for World of Tanks as well as some more content news for Allods Online and Guild Wars 2. So if you need a break from your adventuring, or your realms are offline for maintenance. then check out the following headlines to pass the time. Read on and game on, friends!

The MMO Times: Games Aplenty This Fall

Issue 45

Welcome to another issue of The MMO Times, gamers! I am a little delayed with the next issue because I have been away on vacation for the Labor Day holiday. However, I’m sure with PAX and the Guild Wars 2 release, many have had plenty to keep them busy.

So while the Left and the Right argue over who’s right and who’s wrong, there was some pretty exciting news released recently in the MMO gaming world. The rest of this year is looking pretty busy and gamers are going to have a difficult choice as to what they want to play. There are several Marvel Heroes headlines, more about the RIFT expansion, new content for SWTOR, MechWarrior Online and some very sad news about City of Heroes. Read on and game on!

The MMO Times – The Brink of Another Guild War

Issue 44

Greetings again, Gamers. There isn’t much to talk about this week, I think because we are on the verge of a very exciting week next week. The Pre-Mists of Pandaria content patch (5.0.4) comes out next week and I believe the next content update for The Secret World is also happening next week.

Oh yea, and there is that Guild Wars 2 release 🙂

I know many have been chomping at the bit waiting for the release of this game. I hope it lives up to everyone’s expectations, though I’m sure there will be a brood of haters that seems to spawn with every new release. I hope it doesn’t ruin the game or the experience. If you are playing and visit often I encourage you to post your thoughts, just give me a buzz. All right, here is a short, but sweet, list of recent news and tidings. Read on and game on friends!

The MMO Times: The Power of The Force Compels You!

Issue 34

Hello Again, Gamers! As the excitement of Diablo III finally quells, the MMO world suffered some disturbing news this past week. All of the employees at 38 Studios have officially been laid off as more drama continues to emerge from Curt Schillings disastrous foray into MMO development. Bioware also announced that they had to layoff several developers and will be performing server merges, however this does not spell doom for SWTOR. There are still 1.3 million active players and obviously layoffs are just part of the business (Blizzard did the same thing a few months ago).

Despite these unfortunate events, there is still something to be excited about for World of Warcraft and SWTOR players. More interesting changes are coming out from the recent beta build for MoP and the SWTOR devs (that are still employed) have more details of what to expect in the 1.3 update. There is also some more exciting news for RIFT fans and anyone excited about the upcoming Marvel Heroes MMO.

Also, next week is E3 (June 5 – 7) so hopefully we will get some more exciting news about our favorite games (current and future)! Enjoy!

The MMO Times: Inferno Edition!

Issue 33

As the finish line for the race for the Inferno World’s First draws closer and the Diablo III hype begins to wane, we are now looking at what new content to look forward to in upcoming patches and expansions. This issue we have more details about the upcoming 1.3 patch for SWTOR, more MIsts of Pandaria goodies and some Warhammer news.

It is also important to note that in a couple of weeks is E3 (June 5-7) and there is usually something of interest that will be revealed for the MMO genre. Perhaps Gazillion’s recent press release (which you can read about in this issue of MMO Times) will be a prelude of what might be at E3 this year.

The MMO Times: Merry Christmas!

Hello again, gamers! I hope you all can tear yourselves away from SWTOR to check out the following articles that I found interesting over the past week. This will be the last one I do before Christmas so Merry Christmas all! Enjoy!

Guild Wars 2 Enters Closed Beta

December 16th, 2011 – Guild Wars 2 will be entering closed beta. NCSoft will be running an internal selection process to determine who will be in the beta. There won’t be any public application process. I’m sure, regardless, fans are excited. Check out more at the Massively article

Aion Going F2P in Europe

I was excited when I first read about Aion going Free-2-Play because I thought it would be for all servers. Apparently, at the time that I am writing this, it is only going F2P on the European servers. This is scheduled to happen in February, so there is still time for NCSoft to change their mind about the NA servers.

Farewell SWG

Well, the first ever Star Wars MMO is officially shutdown. December 15th was the last day for Star Wars Galaxies. I never played it, I thought about it, but I didn’t know anyone that was playing so I didn’t partake. Despite the fact that I never played it, a part of me is still sad to see it go. Jef Reahard, of Massively, gave SWG a very well written farewell.

Previewing MechWarrior Online

Massively has a pretty decent article that covers some of the “nuts and bolts” of the upcoming MechWarrior Online MMO. There are several images of some concept art in the post. I never played MechWarrior, but I knew of it. Some are claiming that this is their most anticipated game of 2012 (which means it has a release date of sometime next year). Check out the article and tell me what you think.

Marvel Universe MMO Renamed

Gazillion’s newest project, Marvel Universe, has been given a new name. It makes sense, they want to differentiate their game from the DC version. It is now called “Marvel Heroes”. I found the post on an MMO News site. There still isn’t a lot of details provided about the game. Check it out if you are interested.
