The Star Wars Celebration in London kicked off today and here are a few of the announcements and details about upcoming series and movies. I wish I were there but England is an expensive trip to make. All of these details came from the Live broadcast on the Star Wars YouTube channel.

Before I get into all the Star Wars details, let’s quickly cover the non-Star Wars IP that was discussed. Of course, I’m referring to the next Indiana Jones movie and the unveiling of the newest trailer. During an interview with director James Mangold he tells us that John Williams, at 91 years old, did compose the entire score. The man is a legend.

Series and Movies Announcements

Ahsoka series poster

I’ve already posted the Ahsoka teaser trailer, which doesn’t have a specific date but we know it’s coming out in August as the newest poster illustrates. You need to have seen Star Wars Rebels for the Ahsoka series to make sense.

It is confirmed that they have begun shooting Andor Season 2, which makes sense. The release timeline for the second season is late 2024.

The series that they talked about the most is The Acolyte, coming out in 2024. During the live broadcast, they seem to have interviewed the entire cast of the show. Some of the notable highlights are:

  • The show is inspired by martial arts films and Kill Bill
  • Given that Kill Bill is the inspiration the show will be “really dark”
  • Joonas Sutamo (Chewbacca) will be in the show as a Wookie Jedi!

I am officially really excited about this show as I am a huge fan of martial arts films. It’s great to get another Wookie Jedi, Gungi is the first, introduced to us in The Clone Wars.

Finally, there are 3 new films but they will be separate films from three different eras in Star Wars. One will be a new sequel-era film with Daisy Ridley back as “Jedi Master” Rey, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. One will take place around the dawn of the Jedi (directed by James Mangold). Dave Filoni’s film will be during the New Republic and tie together all the Mando-era Disney+ series.

I will update this if anything else new is announced today.
