Skeleton Crew – Episode 6

I’m way behind because the past seven days have been super busy between a family vacation and the end of the year. In this episode, we see the fallout of Jod’s greedy choices, and friendships are tested between the kids. We learn that KB suffered an accident recently enough that she remembers it and her augments are required to keep her alive.

This episode didn’t have much in the way of easter eggs. I’ll cover a few things below but that didn’t detract from the episode’s quality. Bryce Dallas Howard always directs an entertaining show, which is probably why she directs so many episodes across the various series.

Episode 6 Easter Eggs and Bilge Rats

There are not many easter eggs in this episode, mostly more pirate themes. This series is essentially focusing on the pirate subculture in Star Wars. The kids falling down a chute and each having a different exit out of said chute is another clear Goonies reference.

They really double down on the pirate theme in this episode. We have everything from “bilge rats” to a sea space shanty for Captain Rennod and the Onyx Cinder. We also learn that “death by airlock” is the space equivalent of “walking the plank”.

There is also a slight nod to Star Trek when Fern asks KB if she can give her any more power and KB essentially tells her she’s giving her “all she’s got”. It’s also around this time we get a really cool reveal. The Onyx Cinder is not a piece of garbage. In fact, when the outer shell is removed, we see there is a much sleeker ship beneath the rough. Granted the inside is still pretty rough.
