Another Christmas in the books; it always goes too fast. I did get a chance to watch several movies this year and a decent mix of selections. This is also the inaugural year for a new special event movie, Elf Celebration Day (on December twELFth). Let’s get the list of default movies.

- White Christmas
- 8-Bit Christmas
- Scrooged
- A Christmas Story
- A Christmas Story Christmas
- Christmas Vacation
- Four Christmases
We watched Four Christmases again this year, so it’s now pretty much a default choice. Believe it or not, we did not watch Spirited this year, which surprises me since my daughter enjoys it so much. Now let’s get to the non-default choices, including a 2025 Christmas movie.
A Christmas Carols
A Christmas Carol is retold so many times in so many different ways. Scrooged is the version I watch every year simply because it’s one of my favorite Christmas movies. With that said, it’s not the best telling of a Christmas Carol, just one of the more unique versions.
This year, I watched two other Christmas Carol movies, The Muppets Christmas Carol and Scrooge (1970). The Muppets Christmas Carol should be a default choice to watch every year. It’s a classic. Michael Caine gives a great performance as the titular Scrooge.
Scrooge (1970)

Directed by: Ronald Neame
Starring: Albert Finney, Sir Alec Guinness
My Rating:
This is the first time A Christmas Carol is told as a musical. Albert Finney is Scrooge and gives a great performance. The legendary Sir Alec Guinness is Jacob Marley. I really enjoyed this version of the movie. The movie follows the basic themes of the story, but they make one interesting change. During the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, they change Scrooge’s fate sequence quite a bit, giving us a much more “hellish” fate for Scrooge.
Other Selections
Deck the Halls (2006)

Directed by: John Whitesell
Starring: Matthew Broderick, Danny DeVito, Kristen Chenoweth
My Rating:
Last year I watched Christmas with the Kranks, which was made about the same time as this movie. Between the two movies, I enjoyed Deck the Halls more. The humor was better, and most of the antics are a little more believable. I was actually surprised how much more I enjoyed it. It’s a fun movie, and I’d say it’s worth watching. Just remember that it’s supposed to be fun and not taken too seriously.
Oh. What. Fun (2025)

Directed by: Michael Showalter
Starring: Michelle Pfeiffer, Denis Leary, Felicity Jones
My Rating:
It’s fun to check out a new Christmas movie every year, and this one was another good choice. This is a great movie to watch, especially if you’re a mom who does a lot for the holidays. I don’t know why this movie was given such poor reviews; maybe the younger generation needs to learn to appreciate and embrace John Hughes-style movies.
Bonus and Special Event Movies
There is obviously only one special event movie in December, Christmas (or Hannukah depending on what you celebrate). However, a new special event day began this year, and it happens to coincide with Christmas. December 12th is Elf Celebration Day (because it’s the twELFth) and it’s the day we watch Elf (2003).
I hope you all had a great Christmas, or whatever you celebrate.

“The screen is a magic medium. It has such power that it can retain interest as it conveys emotions and moods that no other art form can hope to tackle.”
– Stanley Kubrick
