Title: The Jedi, the Witch and the Warlord
Directed By: Rick Famuyiwa
Runtime: 48 minutes
I can’t believe we are already at the (season one) finale! It has been an incredible journey and I’m looking forward to more (please let there be a season two). I will probably write a separate post that wraps up my thoughts and feelings on this series but, in the meantime, let’s talk about Ahsoka Part Eight.
The director is no stranger to the Star Wars franchise. Rick Famuyiwa has directed several excellent episodes of The Mandalorian. He does another fantastic job on this finale.
With time running out, Ahsoka, Ezra, and Sabine must race to try to stop Thrawn from returning to the home galaxy. Is Thrawn prepared to face Anakin’s former padawan?
All the Easter Eggs
There are some fun Easter Eggs with this episode so let’s get into them.
The title is a fun homage and an Easter Egg. If you’re not familiar with C. S. Lewis’ Narnia books (which would be surprising) this is clearly a play off of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. It’s a well-known fact that Filoni is a big fan of C. S. Lewis, so much so that The Chronicles of Narnia is the inspiration for The World Between Worlds.
Here is another neat Easter Egg and piece of trivia. This episode’s premiere date is October 3rd which is also the same day The Clone Wars debuted (in 2008) and Rebels (in 2014). Well done, Filoni. Well done.
Morai – The bird Ahsoka sees, at the end of the episode, is a convor named Morai. She’s always around to watch over Ahsoka and it’s believed Morai is the Force manifestation of The Daughter. If you are confused, I highly recommend watching the Mortis story arc in The Clone Wars (Season Three, Episodes 15, 16, and 17).
This is not Morai’s first live-action appearance, she can be seen on a branch in the episode titled “The Jedi” from The Mandalorian. I’m sure we all fondly remember that episode as it is also Ahsoka’s live-action debut.
Mother Talzin – When Morgan becomes a full Nightsister she is given the “Blade of Talzin”. Mother Talzin was the leader of the Nightsisters on Dathomir. She was eventually wiped out by Count Dooku and General Grievous.
What Comes Next
Thrawn’s escape leads me to believe that he will be the main antagonist of the next season of The Mandalorian. In fact, part of me wonders if retrieving Ahsoka will also be one of the objectives. Either way, Thrawn is Mando’s problem now.
There is much I want to discuss about the ending of this episode and the season overall. So much so that I will provide a follow-up post that reflects upon this season and postulates where Ahsoka goes from here.
With that said, I will finish this post by saying that I did enjoy this episode and the series is, thus far, one of my favorites. I’m hopeful for a second season.
What are your thoughts on Ahsoka Part Eight?
