StormtroopaIssue 131: If you’re like me, you might be feeling a little old when you realize that 1985 was the year the world was introduced to an Italian plumber on 1985-Mariothe proverbial damsel-in-distress quest. Super Mario Brothers turned 30 this week and, for me, that was the game that started it all. It’s unfortunate that we lost Satoru Iwata too soon so that he can see the world celebrate one of the most iconic video games in history. Even Google, of course, got in on the action, as documented by Kotaku (a great way to annoy your co-workers).

This is still an MMO post and MMOs are what we will talk about but homage should be paid where homage is due. There is a new title entering a beta (of sorts) called Otherland that you might be interested in checking out. Destiny’s new trailer is definitely something to checkout (especially if you didn’t watch any NFL this weekend). StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void also has a new cinematic for your drooling viewing pleasure. Blizzard has dropped some new Overwatch hints and HotS goodies. So take a break from some Mario nostalgia (if you actually have a functioning NES) and check out what’s new in MMOs this week. KCGO.

Otherland Early Access Begins

Posted 9.10.15 – I don’t recall having read about or provided headlines about Otherland in the past. It’s obviously a new MMO title who’s early access has officially begun. The “early access” is actually more of an open beta. The game appears to be buy-to-play and you can see a trailer for the game on the provided post. It looks OK but not really something I’m ready to jump into. There is still some polish to be applied to the game and perhaps the trailer was created prior to the application of said polish. Anyone out there thinking about playing?

Impressive Trailer for Destiny: The Taken King

Posted 9.10.15 – If you did watch Thursday night’s NFL season opener between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Cheaters, err Patriots, then you probably saw the 60 second version of this trailer. This one is a bit longer and what makes it impressive is that its a live-action trailer (i.e. live actors portray a majority of the characters in the trailer). Even if you are not going to play the game, you should check out the trailer because it is pretty good. The Taken King is available September 15th.

LotRO Free Server Transfers

Posted 9.11.15 – Starting September 14th, Turbine will be allowing free server transfers to players on Elendilmir and Estel. They don’t, yet, specify how long players have to complete the free transfer but it appears you have through all of 2016 to do so. This information was provided by a dev on the forums so if you would like more information regarding these transfers you should see the post.

Hints of New Overwatch Heroes?

Posted 9.15.15 – An Overwatch Twitter post came in the form of a wanted poster with two sketches. If you read the post the author is alluding to potential two new heroes in Overwatch, but based on the other “hints” that followed the Twitter post, I’m not so sure. It very well could be two more heroes, it just seems odd that this close to the beta Blizzard suddenly decided to add two more. My theory is that these two characters will be the primary protagonists in Overwatch? I also think Blizzard is building suspense for Blizzcon.

Uther Judgement Armor/Mount

uther-lightbringerPosted 9.15.15 – If you are reading this hoping that I am talking about something in WoW, I hate to disappoint you, but its for Heroes of the Storm. I meant it, too, when I say I hate to disappoint because I’m disappointed this armor and mount aren’t available in WoW because it looks amazing. I almost want to play Heroes of the Storm for this artwork alone, however, its not free. The Uther Judgement armor and mount are only available via the in-game store.
