The Mandalorian & Grogu

If you are a fan of any part of the franchise you may have heard the latest, official, news. Jon Favreau will direct a new movie featuring the Mandalorian. The Mandalorian & Grogu movie will begin production this year (2024) but an official release date, or year, has not been provided.

There are no more details provided as it pertains to this new film however it gives us a few things to ponder.

Are You Pondering What I’m Pondering?

I think there will not be another season of The Mandalorian. This movie will be in place of season four. The title is a little trite; I kind of hope it’s just a working title and Jon Favreau comes up with something a little more catchy.

Dave Filoni and his hat

What the article does allude to is that this movie is in addition to the three movies they are already planning, including Dave Filoni’s “Heir to the Empire” movie. So we have four movies to look forward to! The other subtle announcement in the article is that there will be a second season of Ahsoka, which is Dave Filoni’s current project.

This is how I see this all working out. Dave Filoni’s movie will still be the culmination of all the “Mando-verse” series and movies. Favreau’s movie will set up Din Djarin for Filoni’s movie and the next season of Ahsoka will set up Sabine and Ahsoka.

Slave 1

As much as I’d love a second season of The Book of Boba Fett, I don’t see that happening, however, I do think Boba and Fennic will be back in some capacity. It will most likely be in Favreau’s movie and, maybe, in Filoni’s. We won’t know until we get there.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which is supposed to be released sometime this year, is also part of the “Mando-verse”, however, no new details about this series have been provided. I hope that changes soon.

That’s all I’ve got but it has me very excited!
