MMT: Halloween Month (October 2022)

October is Halloween Month. This should be no surprise. Therefore the theme is essentially scary/thriller movies. My approach this month is a little different. Usually, I have a predefined list of movies I plan to watch for each themed month. However, during Halloween Month there are at least 2-3 movies we/I watch every year; The Nightmare Before Christmas, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and Hocus Pocus.

Oddly enough The Nightmare Before Christmas is the only one that we did watch. Perhaps the month went by so quickly that we didn’t get around to the other two. Below are the other movies that I also watched this month.

Andor Episode 9

Andor Episode 9

Title: Nobody’s Listening
Director: Toby Haynes

When we last saw Cassian he was in prison with his soon-to-be buddy Melshi, making parts for, presumably, the Death Star. Vel and Cinta are hunting him while his friends and mother are being repressed and interrogated by the Imperial presence on Ferrix. Let’s discuss Andor Episode 9.

For a “middle” episode, this one is pretty intense. Andy Serkis and Diego Luna’s performances in this episode are amazing. I’m a fan of Snoke, but this is Andy’s best role and performance as a Star Wars character!

Halloween 2022

Taking a moment to wish you all a safe and Happy Halloween. I typically don’t do much for Halloween, it’s not really my favorite holiday. It barely makes the top 5. Yes it’s fun, but there are several other holiday’s that I enjoy more. Granted, aside from Christmas, it is the only other holiday where I put up decorations (although not quite to the same extent as Christmas).

I don’t dress up and I don’t go to any parties. I will hand out candy to the neighborhood kids and take my own out trick-or-treating. After that, Halloween essentially ends for me; then it’s a test of will power not to eat any of the left over candy.

Andor Episode 8

Andor Episode 8

Title: Narkina 5
Director: Toby Haynes

Andor Episode 8 has dropped and we have some questions after the events of last week’s episode. For instance, we know Andor isn’t in prison for six years (that would put his release around the time of Empire Strikes Back). So how does he get out of prison? Did we get our answers?? We did not but I wasn’t expecting that to happen in this episode. This is the first episode in the third 3-story arc of the season. Therefore it’s safe to assume Andor is in prison for at least one more episode with the escape happening in Episode 10.

So how does he escape? And who helps him?

Star Wars Rumors: Secret Sequel Era Movie

Secret Sequel Era Movie

In my quest to find additional things to post I thought, perhaps, I’d try to respond to new Star Wars rumors. I can discuss or debunk any of these and which rumors I choose will depend on the source. You see, unless it comes from an actual Star Wars news source, I typically remain skeptical. There are a couple of “sources” out there that are absolutely unreliable (ex: Collider, We Got This Covered, etc). I won’t get into the details why, besides I’ve covered this before.

The newest rumor to hit the Internet is a new sequel era movie that will take place after The Rise of Skywalker. The creator of Lost and the Watchmen HBO series, Damon Lindelof, is involved with the creation and writing of the film.

What Gives This Rumor Credence?

The rumor comes from The Hollywood Reporter which is a fairly credible source (article). At the time of this writing, I have not seen anything official appear on StarWars.com. However, a couple of my favorite Star Wars TikTok creators, MaceAhWindu and Codename_Fulcrum, have both published content about this rumor. I trust their judgement.

This sequel era movie will NOT continue the Skywalker story, but it may include characters from the sequel trilogy. This is exciting news, but I still remain cautiously optimistic. Every time Disney/Lucasfilm makes some announcement about a new movie, the dates are frequently “delayed”. We’ve seen this happen with Patty Jenkin’s Rogue Squadron film. There is also the elusive “Rian Johnson trilogy”.

I will keep an eye on this story as more details are leaked revealed.

In Need of More Ideas

In need of more ideas

I’m at that point again where I am running out of blog ideas. I know I am behind on a couple of my parodical posts (i.e. HMDYK) but I am in need of more ideas. Last year I did a monthly “Top 5” of something related to the movies and perhaps that’s something worth revisiting.

Maybe I should try to write more movie reviews. As part of my Monthly Movie Theme I try to watch something new (usually part of a streaming service). Perhaps, regardless of how recent the movie is, I should still write some kind of post about it? I know there are some great movies available on Hulu, Amazon Prime and HBO Max (I no longer have Netflix, their content isn’t worth the price anymore).

Write What You Know

This is an old piece of writing advice authors often hear when struggling to write. The problem is I feel like what I know is a bunch of minute and not enough substance. I probably know too much about the Star Wars universe and that only appeals to a limited audience (not that I have an extensive audience). I do plan to continue writing about Star Wars but I need to expand my list of topics.

Honestly, I wish I could write more tech related topics. I work in software development, I’ve been a software engineer since I finished college. However I often feel like I’m more of a jack-of-all-trades and a master-of-none; meaning I feel like I don’t have an “expert level” understanding of something to write about.

I’d love to figure out how to grow my audience, so if you happen to come here frequently, please leave me a comment on which posts you enjoy and any suggestions you have of new/more topics. Remember, if you are leaving a comment for the first time, it must be approved before it appears.

Thanks.

/cheers
