I can’t believe it’s already August. The summer goes by so fast but movie selections for July were a “roaring” good time. I decided to start way back in 1993 with the first Jurassic Park movie. All the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies were the selections for July. I mean, who doesn’t like dinosaurs? Make sure you read until the very end because this time I have some final thoughts about this franchise.

Now that I have had time to process (and re-watch), I will share some final thoughts on this season of The Acolyte. The series is not listed as “ended” so another season is still possible. I read somewhere that Leslye Headland already has ideas for a second season and she is “currently in discussions” with the powers that be.
Overall I think the show did not disappoint. It’s not the best series but I was still sufficiently entertained. The fact that I am unfamiliar with most of the High Republic era didn’t harm my viewing experience. I think I enjoyed it more despite that fact.
Title: The Acolyte Directed by: Hanelle M. Culpepper
This is the season finale. Initially, this episode didn’t have an official title. The Disney+ app had it as “Episode 8” however other sources are calling it “Doom”. Only IMDB was showing it as “The Acolyte”. I wonder why the title was so elusive for so long. Regardless, let’s get on with the discussion.

It has been a while since I have seen a movie in the theater. The last one is probably Rise of Skywalker (because I must see all the Star Wars in the movie theater … at least once). However, my wife and I had a rare opportunity for a date night movie and we chose Fly Me to the Moon.
This movie is essentially a rom-com during the Apollo 11 launch. It borrows several elements from the infamous Stanley Kubrick faking the moon landing conspiracy. In fact, the basis for the film comes from a mockumentary made in 2002. As far as a rom-com goes, it’s not bad at all.
The chemistry between Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson is pretty good. I enjoyed the Saturn rocket launch sequences on the big screen. Channing Tatum’s timing for delivering a comic response was very well done and, of course, Scarlett Johansson is a joy to look at. They did play the song however it was not Frank who sang it. The person who does sing it is perfect, especially at the point in the movie in which it happens.
This is a movie I would consider seeing again.

This is the penultimate episode of the first season. We finally get the other flashback episode with the title I predicted we’d get, although this episode is more from the Jedi’s perspective instead of Mae’s.
This was a solid episode that explains most things we saw in the third episode. There are still a few things left unanswered and a couple of new questions. Overall a solid performance by everyone. Only one more left.
I know it’s rare for me to post a trailer for something that isn’t for a Star Wars film/series but this is a special case. Gladiator is one of my favorite movies so I was surprised to learn of a second film. I’ll admit it’s not a movie I thought needed a sequel because the other one was so great. However, after watching this trailer I’m feeling different. Check out the Gladiator 2 trailer.
It looks really good. I’m glad that Ridley Scott is back as the director. I also noticed Connie Nielsen is reprising her role as Lucilla and Paul Mescal will play her son, Lucius. The film appears to focus on Lucius several years after the death of Maximus.
It’s also exciting to see Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal are in the film. Hans Zimmer will not be back as the composter but Harry Gregson-Williams is a good choice.
