2024 Goals Mid-Year Check-in

June has come and gone so it’s time to check in on the progress of my goals for the year. As a reminder, my annual goals encompass three categories: Wellness goals, Reading goals, and technical skills goals. I admit that these posts provide zero informational value to anyone who reads them. It’s merely a means for me to provide accountability for pursuing my goals each year.

If you do read it and have some suggestions or feedback, I encourage you to leave a comment. Keep in mind that if you have not left a comment in the past, I will have to approve it before it appears. This is for security reasons. In the past, I’ve had to remove hundreds of spam posts therefore I changed the configuration so new comments have to be approved.

The Acolyte Episode 5

Title: Night
Directed by: Alex Garcia Lopez

I said there would be an episode titled “Night”, although I don’t think that prediction is profound. Anyone could have guessed that but the title does have an ominous tone and this episode delivered on that.

This episode delivered on many levels and had us all feeling lots of emotions by the end. This is one of those episodes that I dread watching again because I’m not sure I’m ready to see certain things happen again. All in all, it’s another very solid episode from director Alex Garcia Lopez.

Title: Day
Directed by: Alex Garcia Lopez

I know I’m late, again, posting my thoughts on the latest episode but sometimes life gets a little busy. Obviously, this episode is not Mae’s perspective of the events on Brendok. We see a change in Mae’s character so I still think that episode is coming. I expect that we will have an episode, or episodes, titled “Night” and/or “Choice” which will focus on Mae.

A couple of cameos, or Easter Eggs, have caused quite the brouhaha that I will help clarify. Despite that, this was a solid episode, probably the best so far. It does end with quite the cliffhanger.

The Acolyte Episode 3

Title: Destiny
Directed by: Kogonada

This post will contain spoilers, so don’t continue reading if you haven’t watched it yet. Come back when you’re ready.

This was an interesting episode. I enjoyed it for its informational quality but it doesn’t progress the storyline. We are finally taken back into the past to Brendok to see what happened to set Mae and Osha on to their respective paths. We experience these events mostly from Osha’s perspective.

The first two episodes use this duality naming convention but this episode does not. This makes me think the next episode will be from Mae’s perspective. I think this will also show how Mae feels betrayed by the Jedi. We will see what dark choices the Jedi made.

FitBit: The Ending of an Era

I recently talked about running my first half-marathon at the Flying Pig. I had fun doing it and I’ll think about if I want to do it again however it marks the end of an era. The half-marathon was my FitBit’s swan song. I am officially retiring my FitBit and it feels really weird; I have “phantom device” syndrome.

A few years ago I bought an Apple Watch but I kept using my FitBit because it had so much of my walking/running data that I didn’t want to give it up. Essentially I had two fitness devices and it was time for one to go.
