Yule Tidings!

I just want to take this opportunity, before I forget to do it this week, to wish all of you …

Merry-Chrismass

Awww … did that offend you? Well tough! Get over yourself because no matter how much you complain on Facebook and Twitter, there are hundreds of thousands of people, just like me, that are going to continue to say “Merry Christmas”. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it so just shut up and enjoy the season.

Soapbox: The World Is NOT Ending, Folks!

overworked-290x290What in the hell has gotten into people?!? Two shootings within the span of a week and one of which was at an elementary school. The only reason I can come up with as to why these monsters are doing these horrific things is they are among the loonies that think the world is going to end this Friday. I mean, if the world is going to end then clearly there are no consequences for your actions so I guess you can literally “get away with murder”.

Sorry folks, but the world isn’t ending on Friday and you’re still going to jail. While the rest of us continue to live our lives, yours has just ended. Good job!

This is the kind of thing I am most afraid of this week. I can’t wait until Saturday morning just so all this lunacy can be over. I’m beginning to feel concerned about coming to work because I don’t know where the next pinhead will be. In fact I’m actually debating about working from home on Friday.

I hope you and all your loved ones stay safe this week and in the many, many weeks to follow.

What If Your MMO Shutdown

Last week the MMO community bid farewell to a much adored game, City of Heroes. I remember when CoH came out and I knew several people that were playing it. I had friends that would often return to Paragon City when they were bored with World of Warcraft. I never played City of Heroes but I considered it many times. It looks like Massively did a good job broadcasting the final sign off as the servers were shutdown for the last time (you click here to see the video if you want, its a little over an hour and a half.)

Every time I read about a title shutting down I often think about what I am currently invested in. While I am still in the process of returning to SWTOR, I still play WoW quite regularly. I often hypothesis what I would do if Blizzard suddenly announced that they had to shutdown all of the WoW servers permanently. It would be heartbreaking because I have made quite a few friends. I have been in the same guild for over 7 years and most of those friends have been there just as long as I have.

If the servers were to be shutdown forever the only thing I could think to do would be to start visiting some of my favorite locations in Azeroth and start amassing a ridiculous collection of screenshots. I’d probably do every raid and dungeon in the game. Screenshots of all my toons, my various pets, mounts, etc. Most importantly I would be taking screenshots with everyone from the guild. I would definitely have to post these images in a gallery somewhere and give everyone access. Perhaps even keep the website alive so we can all touch base every now and again.

I’m sure many of us would move on to another game, but I doubt if I would invest the same amount of time and energy. I think doing it once is enough for me, doing it again would be akin to madness. It’s really difficult to say what I would do especially when its hypothetical. In fact there is a greater likelihood that life will be the reason I stop playing before all the WoW servers go offline but you never know what tomorrow brings.

So what would you do if your game ended?

Black Friday Mayhem

I heard some crazy stories on the radio this morning about some disgusting display of human indecency during the Black Friday shopping mayhem. Some of these people need to be lashed for their poor judgement and stupidity. They turned Black Friday into Dick-Move Friday.

One of the stories I heard was that some lady used her cart to shove a guy in a wheelchair away from a product she wanted because he was ahead of her in line. Seriously?!?! The guy responded by spinning his chair back into her cart knocking it over. Nice move! I really doubt that whatever item she wanted was worth shoving aside someone in a wheelchair! If I had been there, I would have started kicking and throwing her stuff all over the place. What a bitch!

I heard stories of people taking items right out of the carts of other people and pulling guns on others, even the use of a stink bomb to force people out of the store. We tried to take advantage of some of the Wal-Mart deals they were having Thursday night. We started second guessing our decision when the entire Wal-Mart parking lot was full and half of the Lowe’s parking lot next door. We completely changed our mind when we saw four cops standing in the midst of all the people in electronics for crowd control. That’s when we decided to leave before the mayhem started and decided we would just get our deals online.

Do you have any crazy Black Friday stories?

The Blizzard Authentication Frivolity

The fact that a group of players and greedy lawyers think they can scam Blizzard with this frivolous lawsuit about account security is hilarious almost to the point of absurdity. It’s like suing the police department because someone broke into your house. It is the responsibility of the PC owner to secure their computer and account. Blizzard cannot, and does not, force people to purchase an authenticator (which they sell at a loss, by the way), they simply encourage their use to help further protect your account.

The ignorance of people these days is infuriating and I love Blizzard’s response to the allegations:

“This suit is without merit and filled with patently false information, and we will vigorously defend ourselves through the appropriate legal channels.”

I think that’s legalese for “you’re stupid for even suggesting that this is our fault!” – I heartily agree. I haven’t seen where any of the names of the accusing parties have been given, obviously because they will be ridiculed to the end of their days by anyone with an IQ larger then their shoe size.

Come on people, there are better ways to make money. Try getting an actual job, that seems to be working out well for me.

Getting Back to Work

I had this post ready in my head regardless of the outcome of the election. Both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney fought a very valiant campaign. In fact I’d say they were more cordial about their taunts at each other then most of the people on social media. Crass name calling and belligerent comments will only make enemies and will not rally others for your cause. We, as Americans, need to grow the hell up.

Never, since I became eligible to vote, have I been so focused on an election. I was watching multiple websites as polls started closing. I literally could not sleep and when I did sleep I had dreams of my candidate both winning and losing. I think what both candidates were successful in doing was bringing the country together to passionately and peacefully fight for what they believed. I’m glad it was a close race and I applaud both candidates for a great campaign (despite the fact that we were inundated with relentless television, radio and Internet ads).

As I said four years ago, its time to put aside our differences and work together to improve this great country we live in and we have a lot of work ahead of us. President Obama gave a pretty riveting acceptance speech and I hope his promise to bring us back to a United States of America wasn’t just empty rhetoric. I also hope that the leaders of both parties are ready to work rationally. We will never please everyone but we should do our best to accommodate the majority.

God Bless America!
