98th Academy Awards Results

Jessie Buckley 2026 Oscars

The 98th Academy Awards have concluded, so let’s go over the results and how I did compared to last year. There is another great acceptance speech that is just as wonderful as Kieran Culkin’s was last year. I will talk about it a bit later.

To spoil it a little, I did a lot better this year than last. In fact, I was surprised by how well I did this year. It probably helped that I watched several of the movies that were nominated this year, specifically those nominated for Best Picture. I’ll also admit that a couple were just lucky guesses. I will break it all down after the results.

98th Academy Awards Predictions

It’s Oscar season, folks, so it’s time for me to post my predictions for the 98th Academy Awards. I didn’t do very well last year; I hope I can change that this year.

There is a new category this year, “achievement in casting”. This category is long overdue. There have been some great casting choices, and the folks responsible for those decisions deserve recognition. There are countless movies where I’ve said, “So-and-so was a great casting choice”. The right person in the right role can really affect how the audience relates to the movie.

Again, I have not had the opportunity to see all the movies on the list, but I’ve tried; they are my picks for Drama Month. Look for that post early next month. Believe it or not, of all the movies I saw in theaters last year, none were nominated. You can head over to the Oscars website to see the list of nominees.

Mikey Madison holding Oscar for Actress in a Leading Role

Let’s review the 97th Academy Awards results and see how I did. Again, I did not watch the show because I’m not interested in some celebrity’s political pontificating. I have heard there are some cool moments, especially for Mikey Madison and Kieran Culkin.

In short, for my first year back, I did not do very well. Granted I hadn’t seen any of the movies that were nominated. Maybe I’ll try to do better for the 98th Academy Awards. Most of my predictions are wrong but there are some pleasant surprises. Let’s look at the results.

97th Academy Awards Predictions

This is something new I think I’m going to try. When I was in college (back in the day) I used to play a game (mostly with myself) to predict the Oscars. I was decent at it. The year The Return of the King won Best Picture (2004) I missed a perfect score by three categories. I haven’t played it since because I graduated, and started a career and a family (among other reasons). I think I will give it another go for the 97th Academy Awards, just for funsies.

Granted, I haven’t seen all of the movies that have been nominated, I don’t have time for that; I do have to earn a paycheck and raise a family. Most categories will be an educated guess but I will try to watch (and review) any of them I think are interesting (or recommended).

And That’s Why I Don’t Watch The Oscars

SoapboxI used to watch the Oscars like I watch the Super Bowl. In fact I used to play the Oscar game (i.e. predict the winners of all the categories) and I was pretty good at it, however since 8 Mile won best song, I haven’t watched the Oscars. I think the Academy plays favorites, or they are in the pockets of the production studios that win top prize. I don’t know why certain movies/actors are chosen,  but whether its favoritism or kickbacks, The Academy lacks objectivity. This is exactly what drives me crazy about the “call to boycott” the Oscars by Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee and why I don’t watch the Oscars anymore.

I will be surprised if race has anything to do with the alleged “lack of diversity” in the Oscar nominations. I mean, God forbid its because the movies weren’t Oscar worthy. Smith and Lee are basically asking The Academy to play favorites, as if the nominations are not already fixed. If she wants Will Smith to win an Oscar then he needs to be in a movie that is actually good enough to warrant a nod (and Concussion looked boring, and didn’t seem to get that great of a response). How dare The Academy expect actors to do their job well!!

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, Hollywood is already full of arrogant, self-entitled fools. All those actors and actresses out there trying to “make a better world” are just trying to build publicity and get their 15 minutes. I would be surprised if any of them really give a damn about “free health care” and “equal rights”. “Humanitarianism” is just a PR buzz-word;  besides most of them are too belligerent from their recent drug-and-alcohol-induced fugue to take seriously anyway. The lack of black Oscar nominations is probably item 4,657 on the list of racial injustices, maybe Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee should focus their righteous efforts on something that will actually have an impact on humanity.imma-let-you-finish

I hope Kanye West wasn’t invited to the Oscars, although it might be pathetically hilarious if Jada Pinkett Smith pulls a “Kanye West” …

“And the Oscar goes to …”

Hold on, Imma let you finish but Will Smith deserves this Oscar more!
