October is the month for scary movies and candy. Hopefully, I indulge more in the former and less in the latter. However, I’m not a huge fan of scary movies. I’ll watch films that are maybe a little eerie, absurd, or fun but I generally avoid slashers and the deeply disturbing. The occasional thriller isn’t bad. Just like movie selections for Christmas, there will always be default choices. At any rate, let’s get on with the list.
If the words “Wax On, Wax Off” don’t mean anything to you then you might be too young for this list. Growing up in the 80’s it was a mantra all kids knew. “Don’t forget to breathe, in through nose, out through mouth.” We all wanted to be Danny LaRusso and we all wanted a Mr. Miyagi to teach us where karate comes from. These movies took me back.
I was in Taekwondo more than 20 years ago and I still remember some of it. I hope to convince my daughter to take some form of self-defense and I might even join her. Despite my age, my knees are much better today than they were when I first took Taekwondo. All of the running I have been doing has made them stronger. Anyway, enough reminiscing, let’s talk about the Karate Kid movies.
I’m late making this post, it’s been a busy September. Initially, I didn’t have a theme when I selected the movies for this month. Then I noticed that of the 5 movies I had originally picked, 4 of them had female leads. Therefore, I dropped Sneakers (which is a good movie, btw) for Salt so I could have a female lead mystery film month. Let’s get started.
I can’t believe it’s already August. The summer goes by so fast but movie selections for July were a “roaring” good time. I decided to start way back in 1993 with the first Jurassic Park movie. All the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies were the selections for July. I mean, who doesn’t like dinosaurs? Make sure you read until the very end because this time I have some final thoughts about this franchise.

These movies are also great selections for Halloween month. Vampires and lycan (aka werewolves) are just as easily fantasy as they are horror. April snuck up on me fast so I had to make a quick decision as to the theme for Fantasy month. I hadn’t watched the Underworld movies in a while so it felt like a good time for a refresher.
There are five movies in the Underworld franchise. As I did for the Lethal Weapon movies, instead of doing them all individually, I am going to discuss them in a couple of groups. I will explain in a bit.
Before I go into each film, one of the things I like most about all of them is the pacing. They don’t stretch out the slower moments needed to move the plot along. The action almost feels non-stop which helps keep my attention.
