mmotimesheaderIIIssue 88: I started a new client which always means I fall behind with my periodic posts such as the MMO Times. I know there are going to be a few items in this issue that are well over a week late and probably are old news which is why I pretty much rushed the rest of this issue to get caught up.

Gamescom is this week so a lot of the news is coming out from there, as I expected. There are a couple of big reveals and some release dates announced. The next WoW patch, 5.4, will be out September 10th which will bring the current expansion to its epic conclusion (I’m anxious to hear about the next expac at BlizzCon this year). Some more FFXIV news and some details about the LOTRO expansion (which hasn’t been in my list of topics in a while). Check it out folks, Gamescom was pretty good to us this year!’

Also, if you hadn’t heard, Blizzard’s newest title, Hearthstone, has officially entered its closed beta. Make sure you go out to your battle.net account and sign up to try to get an invite. Let me know if any of you have yours and if you have tried it out, I’m interested in your impressions.

Siege of Orgrimmar trailer Patch 5.4: Siege of Orgrimmar Trailer

Posted 8.15.13 – If you’re playing WoW and you haven’t seen this trailer yet either 1) you are living in a vacuum or 2) … honestly there’s no excuse. This is a pretty epic trailer for merely a content patch. Garrosh looks completely insane and I get a bit of a “Mr Miyagi” essence from Taran Zhu. After slapping yourself across the face (numerous times), watch this video. Otherwise, watch it again, because its epic.

GTA Online reveal trailer Grand Theft Auto MMO Unveiled

Posted 8.15.13 – I actually read this about a week ago but I decided not to include it in the last issue because it didn’t sound like a great idea. In fact I kind of rolled my eyes and thought “not another fail MMO attempt”. Rockstar officially revealed GTA Online, along with a trailer and some details about the mechanics of the game and honestly, it doesn’t sound half bad. Character and car customization, player housing, but (for now) it will only be available for PS3 and XBox.

FF 1.0 Characters Playable in FFXIV

Posted 8.15.13 – This is a really interesting (and really cool) mechanic Square-Enix is providing for Final Fantasy 1.0 players (from the November 2012 launch). You will get the option to import your characters from the 1.0 launch into the beta and a one time opportunity to change your look, race, name, etc. Also, your toon will be imported into the live servers when the game launches. Pretty neat!

Posted 8.20.13 – If you are a fan of any of the Wargaming.net titles then you were probably pretty excited to hear that at Gamescom they announced the official release date of their upcoming World of Warplanes title. Reaper of Souls teaser First Look at Diablo III Official Expansion

Posted 8.21.13 – A big reveal at Gamescom this year was a first glimpse at the first Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls (which we learned about in the last issue a couple weeks ago). A new loot system (that cuts out the junk) and a new class, the Crusader (think Paladin) are the new things players can expect in this expansion. I’m sure there will be much more to come. Oh yea, there’s a trailer.

LOTRO Trait Trees

Posted 8.21.13 – In the upcoming Lord of the Rings Online expansion, Helm’s Deep, player traits are among the many things that are getting overhauled. They have been redesigned so they “stand out” from one another. An interesting mechanic about the LOTRO trait trees that I didn’t know, players can earn extra points by completing deeds in the game. This is a pretty decent article about these trait tree changes.
