Title: The Streets of Mos Espa
Directed by: Robert Rodriguez
Runtime: 38 minutes
Boba Fett’s struggle to establish himself as Daimyo continues. There are many that do not recognize his authority, and some who don’t even see him as a threat. In his past, Boba travels to Mos Eisley as proxy for his Tusken tribe to confront the Pyke Syndicate regarding their debt.
This is another fun episode, with some especially fun guest stars (not to be confused with cameos). I will get into those guest stars in a bit. Loyalties are tested and revealed and we are starting to figure out who the true antagonists are.
But first …
The following content contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett S1E3.
Guest Starring …
This is our first look at Sophie Thatcher‘s character, Drash (though her name is not specifically stated in any dialog). It was revealed back in December that she is going to be part of the series and the rumor mills have been churning since. It turns out she is not Omega as an adult or any other crazy theory. She is a new character added for the series. Her character didn’t make a huge impression on me. The chase scene is a little underwhelming and muted; but there’s still time to grow.
Also, if you have not checked out Yellowjackets on Showtime, it’s pretty interesting but not for the light hearted. There might be a HMDYK post about her in the future.
Before we get to my favorite guest star, let’s point out a couple others. A water-monger (vendor) asks for help from Boba about some unruly street urchins (Drash and her gang). The vendor is Lortha Peel and is played by Stephen Root (News Radio, Office Space). There is also a quick cameo by Amy Sedaris’ character Peli Motto from The Mandalorian, but if you blink you will miss it.
The New Malakili is …
For you Star Wars noobs, Malakili was the former rancor keeper of Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi. In this episode, Boba receives a rancor calf as a gift from the twins. The trainer of this rancor is played by Danny freaking Trejo!!!! I don’t think anyone knew he is in this series and I was freaking out when I saw him appear on that skiff. Danny Trejo is the redemption this episode needs after the unsatisfactory chase scene.
The second time I was cheering was during a conversation between Boba and Trejo’s character. Boba not only wants to tame the new rancor … he wants to ride it!! That is a whole new level of bad ass! The first two episodes Boba receives scoffs because he isn’t carried on a litter. Why use a litter when you can enter the town riding a freaking rancor!!!
The Pyke Syndicate
I think we now know who the main antagonists are for this season. The Pyke Syndicate. If you thought the Hutt’s were nasty gangsters, the Pykes make the Hutts look like the Wild Hogs. I’m pretty excited to see where this conflict between Boba and the Pykes lead.
We will get to see just how unwise it is to piss off Boba Fett when we learn what becomes of the Nikto biker gang that attacked his Tusken tribe. I suspect that Krrsantan will be back to join Boba in his fight as a courtesy for letting him live. Especially since the Pykes are notorious for enslaving Wookiee’s on Kessel. In the comics, Krrsantan and Boba did work together.
Speaking of Krrsantan (this episode confirms the wookie is Black Krrsantan); we get a taste of his combat abilities. He is as brutal as I had hoped. He will become a fan favorite, if he isn’t already.
