Starring: Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani

Release Date: November 10, 2023

My Rating:

No good deed goes unpunished. After fulfilling a promise made at the end of Captain Marvel, Carol made some enemies. These enemies seek to destroy her for the danger she has created for their people. In locating her, Carol finds that her powers have become entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau.

Good but Flawed

Statistically speaking this movie was a box-office bomb, the first in the MCU. It’s not the greatest of the MCU movies, but I enjoyed it. It’s a much better movie than Eternals. Disney and Marvel are clearly struggling to try to reproduce the spectacle and success of the Infinity Saga films.

The whole “singing planet” is probably the most frivolous part of the movie. I read that, in the comics, the people on this planet spoke in rhyme. The writers probably should have stuck with that. Also, I feel like Brie Larson’s acting was flat; in fact, she’s starting to remind me of stoic Kristen Stewart.

Goose the Flerken

In my opinion, Iman Vellani saves this movie for me. Her acting is charming and endearing, which is what I liked in her Ms Marvel series. Also, the scene with the Flerken, while at first seemed ridiculous, actually became my favorite scene in the movie.

This is one of those movies that I’d probably put on in the background while I’m working on something else (only to be distracted by the Flerken part).
