The Eye on Aldhani

Title: The Eye
Director: Susanna White

Andor Episode 6 marks the halfway point of the season and the climax of Act 2. This will also be the last recap where I post a spoiler warning. Every recap, starting with the next episode, will contain spoilers without warning. My assumption, by this point, is that you are committed to watching this series and you are keeping up.

The heist is on! Can Cassian and his crew pull it off? Who will survive? This is an intense episode with a few more surprises than I was expecting. It’s a great episode and there are some stunning scenes for not having been filmed in The Volume. Also, clearly I am wrong about the Imperial Engineer.

So let’s talk about what happened.

Spoilers Ahead!!!

Spoils At Great Cost

This is the end of Act 2 (of a four act season). There is great cost in this episode, despite Vel promising no violence or death.

Dr Quadpaw from Andor Episode 6
Dr Quadpaw is a cool new character from Andor Episode 6

The crew consists of Cassian, Vel, Cinta, Taramyn, Gorn, Nemik and Skeen. We know that Cassian has to survive, which leaves six that are “expendable”. Gorn’s death makes sense. He wanted to strike back against the regime that admonished his relationship with a local woman. Their success fulfills that wish. Taramyn’s death also makes sense in that he was there to provide support and lead but, other than being a former stormtrooper, he doesn’t have much skin in the game. Gorn and Taramyn’s deaths are sad but not unexpected, however the other deaths are a surprise.

Skeen’s turn is unexpected. Initially I thought he was testing Cassian’s loyalty. Instead we see he is still quite the scoundrel and it’s very reminiscent of Han executing Greedo in A New Hope.

The saddest moment of this episode is Nemik’s fate. He quickly became a favorite and we were all hoping for his survival. I was beginning to enjoy the character as the nerdy tech guy; something I can relate to. I think his manifesto will be a catalyst for Cassian joining the Rebellion. RIP Karis Nemik.
