lord-belichick-3Issue 128: Yes, I know, the title has absolutely  nothing to do with MMOs or gaming (unless you to make the gentle leap to Madden NFL), but I like to take any opportunity to express my unrelenting disdain for Tom Brady (and Bill Belichick). I’m sorry that I may have subjected you to unrelated editorial venting, especially if you are not a football fan (which is a travesty). Be that as it may, we are here to talk about gaming, our love of gaming, and why gaming will, one day, save mankind (i.e. Ender’s Game).

Quick PSA for those playing WoW (so skip if you don’t care): If you haven’t heard, patch 6.2.2 will be released September 1st (next Tuesday). I believe this is the patch that will contain the world event that will link Warlords of Draenor to Legion. So prepare to be invaded (although I’m sure Illidan believes you are not prepared)!squirrel

I really do enjoy writing these posts and I hope there are people that enjoy reading them, even if its only one or two of you. I love finding the really fun and/or obscure headlines to stick in from time to time, hence the Halo headline in this issue. And the one about Duck Hunt. Oh, and the SlightlyImpressive machinima! I know, I’m easily amused and often distra … SQUIRREL!

Duck Hunt Easter Egg

DHD-1Posted 8.20.15 – This has got to be one of the best Easter Eggs ever! Blizzard pays homage to one of the best NES games of all time, Duck Hunt. Apparently, on the main menu screen in Heroes of the Storm, clicking on the trees will initiate the game and you can try your luck at killing some ducks. Miss and a treasure goblin will laugh at your ineptitude. Spoiler Alert: You cannot shoot him, just like the dog. Admit it, we all wanted to shoot that dog when he laughed at us.

Halo On The Catwalk

Posted 8.21.15 – Come on now, make the sexy music noise with me … UNSC, UNSC, UNSC, UNSC. How terribly fitting (and horrifying that I made that noise) that there is a Halo clothing line coming out with shirts, jackets and bags featuring Halo’s United Nations Space Command gear and the uncanny resemblance the acronym is to that sound. Musterbrand created the clothing line because of the impending release of Halo 5: Guardians. Actually the clothes do look pretty cool, but I bet they are going to be pretty pricey.

STO Issue 11 Details

perspective_constitutionPosted 8.21.15 – As Delta Rising comes to a close, a “New Dawn” approaches. Star Trek Online’s 11th issue, titled New Dawn (see what I did there), will be coming to a sector near you in the not-to-distant future. This is, essentially, the next expansion for Star Trek Online. If you want to know a few more details about New Dawn (which is said to be quite … “mysterious”) then you should check out the interview Massively OP had with Cryptic’s Executive Producer.

WoD In Reverse Is A Cute Story

Posted 8.24.15 – This was just too good not to share. One of my biggest issues with the current WoW expansion is the convoluted story. Honestly it wasn’t until Blizzard announced Legion that I really understood who the real bad guy is (it’s Gul’dan, right?). Then SlightlyImpressive (WoW Machinima) comes along and they decide to take the time and reverse the story of Warlords of Draenor which is now described as a “clear cute story of friendship and love”. It’s actually quite hilarious. You have to check it out.

GoT MMO Still Possible

Posted 8.25.15 – Way back in 2012, Bigpoint announced there would be a browser-based MMO for Game of Thrones. I mean, of course GoT would get an MMO. Since HBO has already announced the series will be ending soon, they need to find another way to keep the money train chugging along. Granted the world of Westeros does have the basic fundamentals for an MMO. Players could claim fealty to a particular house but, I think, to keep with GRRM’s basic character philosophy, it needs to have perma-death 🙂

Rise of the Tombraider CE

Posted 8.26.15 – So there is going to be a pretty cool Collector’s Edition of Rise of the Tombraider that is available for pre-order, unfortunately its only in Europe right now. The packaging looks like a wooden crate and contains a Lara Croft statue, various trinkets, and the XBox One version of the game. So if its only available in Europe, why am I telling you about this (other than to elicit foreign envy). It is mentioned further down in the post that a third Tombraider title may already be in the works.
