Andor Episode 8

Andor Episode 8

Title: Narkina 5
Director: Toby Haynes

Andor Episode 8 has dropped and we have some questions after the events of last week’s episode. For instance, we know Andor isn’t in prison for six years (that would put his release around the time of Empire Strikes Back). So how does he get out of prison? Did we get our answers?? We did not but I wasn’t expecting that to happen in this episode. This is the first episode in the third 3-story arc of the season. Therefore it’s safe to assume Andor is in prison for at least one more episode with the escape happening in Episode 10.

So how does he escape? And who helps him?

Andor Episode 7

Andor Episode 7

Title: Announcement
Director: Benjamin Caron

In a recent interview Tony Gilroy explains that this episode will be a standalone episode; breaking the pattern we’ve seen in the first half of the season. Technically, Andor episode 7 does as he describes, although it does end in a bit of a cliffhanger. There is also a new director, Benjamin Caron, who has directed episodes of The Crown and Sherlock.

I really like this episode. The espionage and intrigue takes a big step up in this episode. As the galaxy and the Empire responds to the robbery on Aldhani, the Rebellion is beginning. It’s probably Fiona Shaw’s best performance in the series (thus far).

Andor Episode 6

The Eye on Aldhani

Title: The Eye
Director: Susanna White

Andor Episode 6 marks the halfway point of the season and the climax of Act 2. This will also be the last recap where I post a spoiler warning. Every recap, starting with the next episode, will contain spoilers without warning. My assumption, by this point, is that you are committed to watching this series and you are keeping up.

The heist is on! Can Cassian and his crew pull it off? Who will survive? This is an intense episode with a few more surprises than I was expecting. It’s a great episode and there are some stunning scenes for not having been filmed in The Volume. Also, clearly I am wrong about the Imperial Engineer.

So let’s talk about what happened.

Andor Episode 5

Andor Episode 5

Title: The Axe Forgets
Director: Susanna White

Andor Episode 5 is another solid episode. There isn’t much in the terms of action, but we do see some group storming and, maybe the beginning of some norming. The group storming and norming I’m talking about is the group Cassian has joined. This episode is primarily about his proving his worth. There is some great character development in this episode. Before I get into that I want to hit you with the spoiler warning.

Spoilers Ahead!!!

Andor Episode 4

Andor Episode 4

Title: Aldhani
Director: Susanna White

There have been a few changes for Andor episode 4. As you can see this episode now has a title instead of simply “Episode 4”. The previous three episodes have also been given titles (Kassa, That Would Be Me, and Reckoning respectively). There is also a different director for this episode. Susanna White and, apparently, this is her directorial debut.

Before I dig into the episode, which will include spoilers, here are my thoughts. It’s a solid episode and I really enjoyed it. Well done for Susanna White’s first time as director. There is not much in terms of action but the dialog keeps you interested. This is one of those episodes that moves the story along and I expect that there will be several episodes like this. This is a drama series after all.

Andor Series Premiere

Andor Series Premiere

Another new Star Wars series, another episodic follow-up post. The Andor series premiere consists of three episodes and I, briefly, considered doing separate posts for each of them. However, since all three came out the same day I feel like I can keep them consolidated into one post.

I am going to quickly remind you where in the timeline Andor takes place. Season one will start 5 years before the events of Rogue One (aka BBY 5) and about 5 years after the end of Kenobi (“season one”). I don’t know if that second part is going to mean much to the story, but it at least establishes what events have (or have not) happened. Let’s get started.

Spoiler Warning!!!

The following contains spoilers for Andor Episodes 1, 2 & 3
