This year’s action/adventure selections have an unintended theme. I wonder if you know what it is. Watching these movies was long overdue for me, especially the latter. Here are July’s selections for 2023:

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
  • Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
  • Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
  • John Wick
  • John Wick Chapter 2
  • John Wick Chapter 3
  • John Wick Chapter 4

I began with Indiana Jones because the final film was released in June. Also, I hadn’t watched these movies, probably, since the release of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The John Wick movies have always been on my list to watch and I never got around to it. Hence why they are made the list this year.

Now for the unintentional theme that these two movies share. In all 5 Indiana Jones movies and all 4 John Wick movies, the actors in the lead roles perform most of their own stunts.

Even Harrison Ford in The Dial of Destiny, at 80 years old, still performs his stunts. Across the four John Wick movies, Keanu Reeves performs 95% of his own stunts. Crazy.

Bonus/Special Event Selections

I have not seen Dial of Destiny yet; I had hoped to see it as the bonus movie but July was too busy. I’m excited to see it but I may not get the chance to see it in the theater. (I ignore everything the Internet says about any movie.)

The special event movie should be obvious (if you live in the US). Independence Day with Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, and Bill Pullman. It should have occurred to me to check out the second one. I know some didn’t really enjoy it but that has never stopped me before.

What are some of your favorite action/adventure films?
