I’m going to start off by saying that I really do enjoy this series. People often ask me what my favorite Disney+ Star Wars series is, which is always difficult to answer. There are many things to consider when making that decision. I’m not particularly eager to rank Star Wars movies or series. I will watch all of them multiple times throughout the year. I enjoy them all and each for different reasons.

That being said, in terms of acting, writing, world-building, and character development, Andor easily wins out. It’s probably the best in the franchise. However, the series I connect with the most are Ahsoka and Kenobi.

Thoughts on the Season

Again, I really enjoyed these episodes; I really connected with them. However, with that said, the one criticism I have is that this felt like Rebels Season 5. The series is called “Ahsoka” but we spent more time continuing where Rebels left off. Part Five is the only (amazing) episode that really focuses on Ahsoka. Beyond that, it didn’t feel like it was really her show.

Be that as it may, Ahsoka’s history with the Ghost crew makes sense that we would see them in her show. Given that she is hunting Thrawn also makes sense that we would see those characters. One of my favorite things about this show is seeing live-action Hera, Chopper, and Ezra. The casting is perfect.

Some of my other favorite moments from this season, in no particular order, include episode five, Kevin Kiner’s music, Lars Mikkelsen returning as Thrawn, and Baylan Skoll. Baylan is my favorite character from the series. It is tragic and wonderful that this is Ray Stevenson’s final role. He left us on a high note but we will never get to see more. I’m sure he’s smiling down on all of us as we exalt his amazing work.

RIP Ray. Thank you for a great character!

Theories for the Future

Where do we go from here? There has to be a second season. While no official announcement has been made, Filoni clearly left things in such a way as to suggest there will be a second season. If there is another season, they have one big (unfortunate) problem to solve.

What will they do with Baylan now that Ray Stevenson is dead? They could recast him, although that seems impossible. You cannot simply replace someone like Ray Stevenson. However, killing him offscreen would not do this character justice. I have no theories or ideas as to how I would proceed. Filoni has quite the conundrum. There is clearly more planned for the character since he is standing among statues that depict the Father and Son from the Mortis story arc. Filoni may just have to roll the dice and hope for the best.

If we get a second season it will actually be focused on Ahsoka and training Sabine. Shin and Baylan will be there to provide the antagonists. While this first season seems to lack focus on Ahsoka, its purpose is to position Ahsoka to become the focus of the next season. Thus she, and Sabine, are left behind on Peridea—no distractions (other than Shin and Baylan).

What are some of your theories?
