What is Plex?
You can skip this part if you want to go straight to the steps for connecting to my Plex server. I wanted to provide some quick details about Plex so you get a general idea of what it is.
Plex, by itself, is essentially a free streaming service, similar to Pluto TV. Your free account allows you access to stream their content via their app but your movies and shows will be frequently disrupted by commercials.
Plex can also be used to build your own media server however, this requires a Plex Pass. A Plex Pass does have a subscription (or a one-time lifetime purchase) that allows you to stream your own media (i.e. movies, TV shows, music, etc). You do not need to worry about a Plex Pass unless you want to build your own media server. If that is the case, reach out to me for help and/or questions.
Signing Up for Plex
The first step to getting on my Plex server is signing up for a free account. All you need is an email address and a password. One caveat, you will receive a periodical email from Plex advertising their latest content. I think you can unsubscribe from it.
Go to plex.tv and click on Sign Up in the upper right corner. Provide an email address and a password (you will need to remember this password). I do encourage you to use an email that you check regularly (more on that later).
Once you are signed up you will then need to install the free Plex app on a streaming device. It should be available for anything that allows you to install apps (ex: Apple TV, Roku, Smart TVs, Playstations, etc). After you have installed the app, log in to it to make sure your account is working.
Connecting to My Plex
Send me your Plex username or email address. I do NOT need your password, just the username. After I have added you to my server you will need to confirm the invitation. The confirmation should show up the next time to go into the Plex app. It should also show up in your email.
Once you have confirmed the invite then you should have access to my media. In the Plex app, on the left side, you should see options for Home, Search, etc. You probably have to go to More and look for “leia”.
You can pin the Movies and/or TV Shows to your home screen so you don’t have to keep going to More.
Also, once you have confirmed the invitation to my server you will receive an email from me, once a week, that shows you what I’ve recently added. Everyone is a BCC so I will not be sharing your email with a bunch of strangers.
