As I said in my review of Spider-Man Brand New Day, it will likely break the record for the highest-grossing movie in the domestic box office. Star Wars: The Force Awakens held the top spot for 11 years. Congratulations, Peter Parker!

I’ve been following the box office numbers for Brand New Day since I wrote that review. Based on its momentum, I knew it would beat Star Wars sometime this week. It will be interesting if it still has enough steam to break one billion dollars.

I was never under the delusion that Star Wars would maintain the top spot forever. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a damn good movie, and I’m happy that it is the successor. I guess that makes Peter Parker the … heir to the Empire IYKYK. The ball is now in Filoni’s court to try to take it back; that would be a fun game of movie ping-pong.

Spider-Man is probably the perfect film for taking the crown. It’s much better than some chick flick or a woke reimagining of Ancient Greek literature .

I hope Spider-Man’s new position doesn’t go to his head. After all, with great power comes great responsibility (RIP Uncle Ben).
