I cannot believe it is already almost July especially given how rough of a start to the year I had. January just seemed to have dragged on. June means it’s time to check in on my goals for the year. I will cover the three main areas I always focus on each year: health goals, reading goals, and technical goals.
The fact that June is nearly over before this post demonstrates how busy things on, especially now that the summer has begun. The rate at which the year is progressing is also affecting the completion of my goals.
Health and Fitness Goals
These goals are going very well. I have completed two races this year; a 10K and a 5K (the latter with my daughter). So far I have lost 11 pounds and I am nearly back to my 5-mile-a-day average. Slowly, I am adding back in the other workouts I do prior to each run.
I’ve decided that I want to take some weight off and get back to my 5-mile average before I completely add them back. Also, I may only do them every other week. This is primarily because of my work schedule. My meetings and my summer schedule are not very conducive to extra time for workouts.
2023 Reading Challenge Progress
The reading challenge this year is to read 15 books. So far I have completed six books. As part of the reading challenge, I said I would focus on reading the Inheritance Cycle again. Thus far I am more than halfway done with having started the third book (of four) just a couple of weeks ago.
I have not read more of the Dresden books again, yet. I started a new series called The Throne of Glass, which is eight books if you include the prequel book. I am nearly done with the third book (Heir of Fire). My goal is to complete this series before the end of the year. If I can accomplish that then I may try to get in one more Dresden book before 2024 (I have a special plan for next year).
Technical Goals
While I have been making great progress in the other two categories, here is where I fall flat. The site redesign started out great; I completed the training I needed and even began the work; getting as far as implementing calls to the database. However, that’s when things came to a crashing halt. I kept running into issues that completely derailed my progress.
The goal now is to get back on track and, hopefully, have a beta version ready by October. My hope is that I can have it decently stable to use for Christmas.
I hope your 2023 is going well.
