This issue is kind of patch-centric as more details for the upcoming WoW patch are coming more and more frequently. It’s not all focused on Warcraft though. SWTOR, MechWarrior Online and Age of Wushu are also in the news this week. So while you are waiting for that dungeon or pvp queue to pop, take a look at these brief headlines to pass the time. SWTOR: Feeling Conflicted

old_republic_iconDespite my previous ranting about the half-assed free-2-play model Bioware implemented, I still often find myself wanting to play SWTOR. Usually that ends the moment I log in and immediately start to feel so constricted that I lose the motivation to play. When I see screenshots, news articles and Larry Everett’s blog posts I start to feel the urge to play again. Larry Everett’s geek enthusiasm is often quite contagious.

I think another point that makes logging into SWTOR difficult is that so many of my friends that use to play are so annoyed and upset about the bad implementation of the free-2-play model that I’m the only one that would play. A majority of the reason I play any MMO is to hang with my friends. Logging in to an empty friends list or guild just wipes out any desire to play.

I’ve thought about just starting a new toon (since I am a preferred member, as of the patch 1.6 I should have additional slots). Perhaps if I start a new toon and level up then I can better acclimate to the restrictions. Granted that still doesn’t resolve the issue of the lack of friends also playing the game.

mmotimesheaderIssue 58: Greetings Gamers! This will be the last pre-apocalyptic and pre-Christmas issue so I hope you enjoy the headlines because they could be your last (or the last for this year). So if you’re waiting on a queue, the servers are down for maintenance or you are taking a break from making Armageddon plans check out what we have this week.

We have some new content coming to The Secret World and SWTOR. Some more information on upcoming titles such as Age of Wushu and Marvel Heroes. There is also some interesting news about an old MMO coming back online (which I don’t think has ever happened before). Perhaps an encouraging sign for other MMOs that we have lost over the past couple of years. There is this and more so read on and game on, friends!

The MMO Times: The End Is Nigh!

Makes sense to me. So if you’re not hiding in some bunker somewhere or seeking protection from some mystical mountain in France, check out these headlines. You can take comfort in knowing that even though these games exist in a virtual, fictional world, there is more fact in these headlines then any prediction from an extinct civilization.

Funcom is taking the “end of the world’ lightheartedly with a video made by their creative director that resulted in a pleasant surprise for folks that enjoy that MMO. New game updates for SWTOR, more cool “ninja stuff” for Age of Wushu and more. Read on and game on, friends!

Issue 55: Greetings Gamers! If you are playing WoW then you already know that Patch 5.1 went live recently. If you want to know what was in that patch, MMO-Champion provides a pretty good synopsis. As the dust settles from the flurry of trying to get the best deal, take a moment to check out the latest gaming news or bid farewell to City of Heroes as NCSoft will be shutting down the servers at midnight (PST) on the 30th.

Issue 54: Hello Gamers! I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving (if you celebrate that). As we all were indulging in turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie Blizzard had just celebrated 8 years. It’s pretty amazing that even after 8 years Blizzard still has over 10 million subscribers.

Also, as you can see, there was no shortage of news as we were all treated to some Thanksgiving gifts in the form of Transformers beta invites, TSW news, more Age of Wushu content news, etc. So while we polish off the leftover turkey and before the tryptophan kicks in, check out the following headlines.
