The MMO Times: The 18th of April

warcraft-legionIssue 143: Welcome back, gamers. I hope you are having great weather to enjoy some outside time (just watch out for that daystar). April 18th seemed to be the day that all the interesting news decided to surface. Nearly everything you are about to read was posted all on the same day. It’s not a big deal, honestly. It just means I might be assembling issue 144 sooner, depending on what else is announced this week. PAX East is coming up April 22nd – 24th in Boston so you can expect to see a few treats surrounding that after this weekend.

Blizzard seems to be back to their old tricks (of not listening to their player/fan base). Perhaps Overwatch on the cusp of our fingertips might be part of their excuse, but that would be kind of lame. Star Citizen is ready to welcome you to PAX East and while we are on the topic of “free”, Neverwinter is now available by another means. Your merciful wings are ready to aid you in the depths of hell (if you meet the Overwatch requirements). It’s a lot of interesting news to come out in one day. KCGO.

overwatch_tracerIssue #142: April Greetings, Gamers! Another April Fools Day has come and gone and the Internet tried their hardest to April Fool us all. I humbly admit that I rarely succumb to an April Fools prank. In fact its probably been high school since I last fell for a prank; in fact you better have hard evidence if you want to tell me anything serious on 4/1 because I believe nothing! Every year I love to see what Blizzard comes up with, in fact one of the posts in this issue covers some of the best and worst Internet April Fools jokes.

If you’re into the whole NCAA basketball tournament stuff, I’m sure you’re bracket is busted by now and you’re back to video games instead of that athletic stuff (sweating is gross). So check out the latest news about some of your current and favorite games. Neverwinter has a warning for players, Superman plays WoW, Hearthstone talks about Old Gods, Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch finally meet. The MMO Times: Prepare for Kylo Ren

Just think, in 3 months time it will be 2016 (and we will all be regaling about The Force Awakens and how awesome Kylo Ren is). First, before we are fully immersed in the extraordinary Star Wars universe, we must first have BlizzCon. Unfortunately that also is still a few weeks away, but the road to BlizzCon has begun. Don’t forget to get your tickets and pick up your goodie bag!

The road to BlizzCon, however, is not yet paved with headlines. In fact this posting is later than normal as there wasn’t a lot showing up in my feeds that really warranted a spotlight. Neverwinter does make the list again because R. A. Salvatore (one of my favorite fantasy authors) is apparently involved with the development of this game. WildStar’s F2P patch finally launches. Blizzard makes paid character services a little less cumbersome. So there are a few goodies in here. KCGO.

The MMO Times: Iwata’s Final 1Up

satoru-iwataIssue 122: Does the name Satoru Iwata mean anything to you? It’s alright if you didn’t know who he was, but if you are a gamer I think you should silently bestow some reverence. He was the CEO of Nintendo and a game developer pioneer who recently passed away. I know Nintendo had very little to do with MMO games but a gamer is always a gamer no matter what platform they prefer. I have a link to a great article about his life that you should check out in this issue.

Sadness aside, the SDCC definitely provided us all with many funny feelings in our special places. We not only got a sneak peak at The Force Awakens but also the Deadpool trailer (which is very NSFW, btw) the leaked X-Men: Apocalypse trailer, and you should seriously check out this Suicide Squad trailer (it actually looks pretty good). Of course there was also more details about the upcoming Warcraft movie. It was an exciting weekend for movie geeks and gamers alike. Arousing trailers aside, we do have some gaming news to talk about. The rumor mill and teasers continue from Blizzard regarding new content, specifically around Hearthstone. There is more information on the group changes for SWTOR as well as several other titles with new content coming in the next few months. KCGO.

The MMO Times: When Titans Fall

Titan-Blizzard-01Issue 108: Well, summer is officially over and we welcome the fall of 2014; though it seems bizarre that fall is already upon us. The burning daystar will be in the sky for a shorter period of time over the next several months, however the temperatures will still keep us inside our various hovels. Granted, most of us don’t seem to mind our sequester as it just means “MOAR GAMING!!”

I don’t know if any of you have been trying out ArcheAge, I have downloaded it but I haven’t logged in yet. I hear that there is a nasty queue to endure when you try to log into the game so I guess that has been a pretty big negative about the game. I’ve also heard that once you do get past the queue that the game is pretty fun. Destiny has also launched, I’ve heard it feels like an MMO, I’ve heard otherwise. Is anyone trying it out? What do you think (besides the frustrations of the queue)?

I don’t think I can really beat around the bush that the biggest news to report with this issue is Blizzard’s sudden decision to cancel Titan. It may not be sudden for Blizzard, but it certainly came out of the blue for all of us. Regardless, all the major news hubs have a story regarding the announcement. So I guess then the title of this issue covers both the changing of the season and the biggest announcement. Would you believe me if I told you that wasn’t intentional until after I typed the words in the box? Anyway, lots of Blzzard stuff again (the WoD expansion is about 6 weeks away now), but there is other things to read about too.

The MMO Times: The Force Is Strong!

Issue 103: The Force is our ally and a powerful ally it is. As you may have guessed there is SWTOR news down there today. It makes me happy and excited to be playing SWTOR. On these hot and humid days of summer, while we wait for Blizzard to move their collective asses getting the next expansion deployed, its nice to have something interesting to do. Are any of you doing anything different while we wait, albeit impatiently, for Warlords of Draenor? Somehow I have missed a new MMO called Skyforge, have any of you been looking at this title?

So this issue we have a couple of interesting posts to read instead of the usual “look what’s coming soon” kind of headlines. I hope its a pleasant change for some of you. There are details about the Hearthstone adventure pack (which is now live), SWTOR and WoW game news, also the SDCC is coming soon.
