This is another series I’m hoping to resurrect. I haven’t done one of these since May of 2022. After watching Community (again) recently I decided Donald Glover is an excellent choice for the revival, especially given that it’s Black History Month. Donald Glover portrayed young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. He does an amazing job and I really, really hope he reprises the role if Disney is truly making a Lando series. (Although it looks like this project is no longer happening, bummer.) Be that as it may, how much do you know about Donald Glover?
No Relation to Danny Glover
Sometimes, when I say the name “Donald Glover”, people first think I’m talking about Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover. While Danny Glover is still active, he’s too old to play a younger Lando Calrissian. Also, the two actors are not related.
He was born at Edward Air Force Base in California and graduated from NYU with a degree in Dramatic Writing. While still in school he joined the writing staff for 30 Rock and, sometimes, appeared in front of the camera. In fact, when Donald Glover stepped out from behind the camera, we found out he is also a gifted actor and performer.
Community is the first show where I saw him. Other than Solo, you may have also seen him in Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Martian, and/or Magic Mike XXL. He provides the voice for Simba in the live-action adaptation of The Lion King. He is also a rap musician under the stage name Childish Gambino.
He is currently writing, producing, and starring in a series adaptation of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In fact, it is believed that this project is the reason the Lando series has been shelved. Perhaps he feels besmirched by the poor box office performance of Solo, which is a bummer because it’s a great movie.
