Star Wars: The Subtle, and Brilliant, Connections

For nearly two decades there has been seven new movies and two animated series (with more on the way). There are trivial details that link all of them and the brilliance lies in the minutiae. The subtle, and brilliant, connections Disney brings to the franchise is outstanding and fascinating. Perhaps “connection” might be a misnomer, considering some of these items are so subtle they’re more like “Easter Eggs”. I’ll get into that later. There are quite a few Easter Eggs in all of the movies, but these are my favorites. Also, if you have not seen Solo or all of Clone Wars, there are mild [… Click to Continue …]

Book Review: Phasma

Phasma by Delilah S. Dawson My rating: Captain Phasma is the Boba Fett of the sequel trilogy. Mysterious. Ruthless. The stomp of her chrome boots and her clipped Imperial accent makes her both menacing and intriguing. There is clearly a story to tell and Delilah Dawson is here to tell it. Vi Moradi is a Resistance spy, often given tasks by General Organa herself. On her recent mission she is captured by Captain Cardinal, a stormtrooper of the First Order. Instead of turning her over to his superiors, he secretly interrogates her for evidence against his rival, Captain Phasma. Since the day Brendol Hux brought [… Click to Continue …]

Star Wars: Let's Keep the Expectations Realistic

This should be declared “Star Wars Week”. If someone hasn’t done that already, then I’m declaring it despite the fact that I do not have the clout nor the viral influence to make it official. So, with that said, lets get on with it. The obvious reason I would make such a declaration is the release of the seventh installment of the most beloved Star Wars franchise. I am beyond excited for the movie’s launch and I don’t even have a ticket to see it yet. I’m just excited for the continuation of the story and the characters that I have loved since I was [… Click to Continue …]

My First Fanboy Episode VII Concern

I try not to read too many spoilers about The Force Awakens because I want to be surprised by the story just like anyone else. However in a couple of recent posts/interviews people have alluded to the possible death of one of the original characters. Before I go any further I am going to do the ole’ SPOILERS warning. If you have read any of the books from the expanded universe then I won’t unveil anything new (and I am referring specifically to Vector Prime). Also, if you don’t want to hear the rumors going around about the upcoming movie, you may want to stop [… Click to Continue …]

Ruminations of a Die Hard Fanboy

When I was ten years old I saw Star Wars for the first time and from that moment on there was no turning back. I remember when I was in my teens and my grandma once remarked “remember this because eventually I will grow out of it”. Sorry grandma, its 20 years later and I’m a bigger Star Wars nerd now than I was yesterday and the day before that … and the day before that. I love all the movies; and I mean ALL the movies. 1-6. Why do I like the prequels, you ask? The reason is simple – because its Star Wars. [… Click to Continue …]

Unless you have been living under a rock, you should have heard that the newest teaser trailer has been officially released. One of the local news anchors said he feels like he’s 9 years old again after watching this trailer, and I have to agree with him. Granted when he was 9 the first Star Wars movie was coming out and when I was 9, it had already been out for 12 years. Be that as it may, it still doesn’t change the fact that I also feel like I’m 9 years old again after watching this trailer; especially at the very end of the [… Click to Continue …]
